Uh Oh...No power at the HU

One is main power that is switched and the other is for the memory or something that is suppose to be powered all the time.. I still turn my batteries off.. but they both have to have power.... was the second wire yellow? Ahh damn this memory of mine.......... what were we talking about again?

I would not doubt if the HU has a battery inside. Once that battery drains it wont fire up. I've seen this a lot in various electronic AV components.

Fusion didn't mention the battery or it being a possible problem. But they do say in numerous places, that the HU is sealed and can't be opened by anyone other than fusion. I have power on the yellow wire, on the red wire, at the HU. The fuse has continuity. If there is a wiring failure, it's in the HU harness. Granted if it was as simple as in the yellow or red wire I could repair it. But what are the odds that a factory harness that is strain relieved beyond most normal heroics, is the culprit?

I don't know about trying to hook two leads to the small pins in the connector, to power up. If those things touch at all, it will weld them and probably void my warranty at that point. If I had another connector to hook up I would. I tried two alligator clips and tried to isolate them. But the ground and power wires are less than an 1/8" apart.

I have 10 days from Monday to get it back. Tight.

I know if would be a pain but if you have to remove it from the boat you could then wire it directly to a battery and see if it comes on. Also these radios are like small computers. I have a 750. There are software updates form time to time.. maybe there is kinda update or maybe there is something on the technical support web site. Just helping you grasp those straws..

They make testing leads that have little testing hooks that are spring loaded for such applications. I have a set somewhere... Anyway, the end where you normally have the probe is replaced with a long plastic sheath that you pull back to expose the metal hook that you can hook on in tight spaces. Your electronics store or Fry's or somewhere would have one (I think mine were from Radio Shack).

Mind you, you probably don't want to take the time to go get a bunch of electronics test equipment at this point--you need to get that thing in the mail if it is going to make it back in time. But, in case someone else has the issue and reads the thread...

Thanks guys. At that point this afternoon, I knew I had power to the plug and the plug had no issues. Anything else had to be in the harness or the head unit. I ran out of here and drive the 30 miles to FedEx. It's on the way to fusion. Thank god for an industry discount, overnight by 10:30am was $30, and they won't even get it until Monday. If they are true to their word, I should have it back just before departure! Again, I really appreciate the replies and the thoughts. It makes tackling anything easier when you have extra eyes and brains!

Hopefully you will get an accurate description of what was wrong so we can learn a thing or two.

I will relay it if they tell me!

DARN IT!!! The solution came to me five minutes after you shipped it off.

What? You want me to give Mel the business some more?

Somehow, I think me the brunt of something! Maybe it comes back with no issue, if so and you have the answer, I'll be giving you the business @David Analog ! lol

@txav8r , good luck with the tight timeline! And if they tell you anything about the fog, please let me know - my Fusion ip700i has done that a couple of times this summer. Seems to be when the sun is beating on it... I wonder if it's because it's a sealed unit that it fogs?

I only saw that face display fog that once. And it is sealed so I don't know how to it why that would happen. I don't think they are going to help me get it back to take the on my and only time we use the boat this year. They aren't in any hurry.

Good news! Just talked to Fusion, my HU had a bad processor in it and the unit is being replaced under warranty. They said that it was not common, and that I couldn't have done anything to it to cause it. They are FedEx'ing back to me TODAY!

Oh, I asked about fogging, they didn't feel it should fog at all.

Somebody let the smoke out! That stuff is magical and must stay inside for continued operation.

Being somewhat aware of meteorological conditions, I know what dew point represents and how it relates to temperature and humidity. I can't figure out how I could change the relative humidity inside a sealed HU, outside on a 90 degree day. I was misting the dash with water and hot sauce that day...THAT'S IT! It must have been the HOT SAUCE...you know it can make you sweat!
