So I read on a different thread here that someone took out their SD card from the connext unit and updated it for free via navionics. Yay! Went to do that myself and I get a message saying my chart subscription has expired and I need to pay to get updated chart... screw that! I already use the navionics app on my phone so I guess I'll keep my outdated connext map for now.

That would mean your card had previously been activated (by someone). Once activated it is good for a year of updates from that date. Wonder if someone swapped it at some point in the past before you bought the boat? Who knows...

darn. it is a demo boat so maybe. who knows. Not sure I'm missing much but just wanted to do it. @jacoviii in the back of the unit there is an SD card. take it out. go to navionics website and go to activate card or something like that. Unit name is Actia in a drop down menu. pretty easy
