I’m thinking of setting up the amp at the helm and running the 4 gauge back to the battery...I’m thinking 25ft of each should be good, also going to simply replace the stock speakers with the new ones I bought and use the stock speaker wires. My thought is it’s pribabky simpler to run the 2 big wires back rather than extending rca and speaker wires
You should be able to make the run in less than 25 feet. I am not familiar with the 2017 battery placement but I actually used 17’ of black and 18’ of red in my install. Some helpful info might be in @robert843 ’s good post here: https://jetboaters.net/threads/stereo-upgrade-help.15954/page-3
25 ft should reach the helm. I did not run my power to the helm I have my stuff mounted on the wood closest tot helm under the rear seat I'm hoping to post pics this weekend. I got 25 ft of power cable and I pretty sure that would have reached the helm and I ran through the engine compartment and around. If you were running across the fuel compartment I'm sure it would be less then that. I just wasn't comfortable running the wire through the fuel compartment but many do.

About reusing the speaker wiring... I don't know how the SX is wired, but if it is anything like the 242X and the 212X your speakers are wired in series. With your new amp that leaves a lot of wasted power on the table. The polk kicks out a bunch of power if wired in parallel.

Am I missing anything here?
I was going to use a cutting board (plastic) for the mount behind the helm...what size should i get that can be cut down to size or should i get a standard one and use mounting brackets?
Depends on your boating style. If you are running in any kind of rough water you want those mounts/brackets solid, do not want these things flying and bouncing around behind the helm - while you holding on to the wheel, lol.
@mattschepker did you cover it with carpet or just leave it the way it is?
I already had that in my shopping cart....just did the buy, how did you mount the board?
No I did not cover it with carpet. I left it as is. The amp that I have mounted to it gets warm but the board is not hot at all. I have a 2017 ar240. I mounted the cutting board in the helm storage. I took off the starboard front seat back drilled 4 holes and mounted the cutting board using spacers and bolts and locking nuts and washers.
