VHF common courtesy and tips?

You may be right and I wasn't blaming young guys necessarily. But it is those that have a lack of professionalism that do that sort of thing. So what demographic do you think that comes from, the 20,000 hour veteran or the freight dog that hasn't acquired either the respect for his chosen profession or wisdom? I think your rush to paint my remark as biased may be appropriate but I suspect I am close to right. So let me format it this way, they don't have much time or commitment to the profession based on their behavior. How am I doing? @Skysurfer2010 , when you are 60, you won't see the world with any different glasses than you do today, and your wisdom will match your years more than likely, but you will always be young at heart. You are right, age has little to do with it.

On LP, channel 16 is abused... but all of the commercial entities on the lake take part in the abuse. Instead of hailing them on 9, channel 16 is a hailing channel for Powell. If you're doing ship-to-ship and they are expecting you, just have them dual watch 68 or 69. NPS won't freak out at you if you hail on 16 but then switch to another channel. If a houseboat is being a jackass, you should hail them on 16 - they *should* be monitoring 16 while under way... but they probably aren't.

Wow, I never really thought about how to communicate on my vhf handheld radio. I have a sticker on it that says use channel 16 for emergencies. my plan, was simply to get on it and ask for help, if necessary. I've monitored it for hours here on the Sacramento delta and often wouldn't hear a thing for hours. Early on I was wondering if the radio was working at all.

I Learned something's from this thread, thanks guys.
