Winterizing

Yeah I only get the stuff on amazon that the free shipping. Everything else at the local store. Only thing I have to get at the local store is the oil, filter, and fogging spray. Sta-bil, oil extractor, and funnel will be through amazon.

Consider the west marine oil extractor. It is widely regarded as the best out there.

Even for a winterization ? What kind of Ring Free? Will putting ring free and stabilizer in the same tank be ok? I am currently planning my purchase list an amazon. lol
Ring free treats the engine.

Stabil just keeps the moisture out of the tank. My boat is 2.5 hours away, so I always add stabil...so I will not need to do this for my winterization.

My dealer RECOMMENDED I do this.

Same one an amazon was cheaper.....Not a shocker considering West Marine's prices.

Yeah, west marine costs more but their service and liberal return policy makes it worth it in most cases. The biggest cost of buying from them is actually going to the store. There just isn't any way you are leaving with only what you came for. Probably a good call on the Amazon one.

Just remember to not overfill your gas tank up into the neck when winterizing. If you do, it will eventually expand and run out onto the side of your boat/cover.

Ok, I will sound like a sales person here ( And I know it ). I have some single bank marine battery chargers I am blowing out at $29 bucks. Good option for maintaining your battery during the winter.

Now I want to get some grease, Yamaha has the tube tha you simply squeeze, or one you can put into a pump, not sure which one I want. @ChargerGuy will having batteries on my charger (See signature), be an issue since it will be 7 months sitting

You need both. They are for different things.

That reminds me... I need to fill my bearing buddies again.

its the same Yamaha marine grease, just in different types of containers I assume

The squeeze tube says molybdenum (sp?) while the grease gun tube says petroleum based. I guess if you have to get one, get the grease gun one because the other will not work on a zerk. They are also called out separately in the service manual with a 3rd type called silicone grease.

@geiger41, those need a decent charger, yes. The guest charger that you have, if working, should be fine for storage. If not, I have solutions in the $60-80 range.
thanks!

Yep, search the part number on the internet and look for the cheapest with shipping. $40 to your door sounds like the best price this year. My dealer has them for $38 + tax.

The kit gives you everything you need and a bit. With 2 kits you will have a whole extra quart of oil to stash in the boat just in case + a half for power equipment in your garage.

just ordered 2 kits total inc. shipping was 84.25. Cheaper then if I had to drive to go get them.

got them at partzilla.com

Understand, but I agree: Way too early to see this depressing title come up....

A couple more questions:
1. Pull carpets and seating and keep them inside for winter?
2. What should you cover it with if you don't go the shrink-wrap route?
