I know this has been discussed many times but this winter I decided to change mine. Mostly out of boredom on a cold day. So I took off one of the water boxes to gain better access. Then just touched the scupper and it fell in two instantly. Wow! If this had happened on the water it would have been big trouble. So the main reason for posting this is just a reminder. Change it. Not that hard of a job, My boat is a 09.

@DawgDaze and @Suchawittygal ...sage advice here! Your climate is different than out here now but I would think that plastic scupper would be on your list. I had it on mine and would have been done this off season if I found any reason whatsoever. I checked it every season! I actually gave it a good shake with my hand and any fracture would be noticed. So Dan, this is a great topic! And I am "like" ing it!

I replaced the one on my 210 with stainless. It was surprisingly intact, but not worth the potential risk it posed to my family! Easy replacement too. Glad you found it Dan.

I have a stainless scupper sitting on my workbench and plan to install it in the next few weeks.

When you say water boxes, are your ballast tanks, solid boxes? Could you share pictures of them?

Thanks

Bruce,

I believe the 230 needs a bit of a grind to get the stainless scupper in. Not a big deal but not as easy as the 21os.

Absolutely right Jaws...you have to bevel two of the sides for it to fit flush in the indent it sits in. No big deal, unless a polished edge is important...then your going to go through the grits to get the shine back.

Bruce,
Water boxes are mufflers in our boats.

Anybody have the model of scupper for the 230?

Thanks guys. My existing scupper is round. So I am hoping it will fit. If not I have a grinder and even access to a lathe if needed.

Water boxes are the mufflers. A few screw clamps and a couple of rubber straps. Boom they are out.

Thanks, I knew some of the 212s have built in ballast. Thought it would be interesting if the ballast was in hard boxes rather than bags.

Just the 212x and they are all bags.

While you are in there, check all of your hose clamps on the exhaust for tightness, slippage and rust. Our exhausts are a big weakness in maintaining buoyancy if any clamp lets go.

I have mine waiting for me to do the work. Anybody have any recommendations for the wrench to use on the inside?

Any idea what size clamps, and how many? I might consider changing them while I am in there anyway. At minimum I want to have spares on hand.

I thought about grinding small grooves on each side of the nut. You could then put a screwdriver in the groove and tap it with a hammer to snug it up. Not sure if that's possible as I haven't looked at how much space is around the scupper.

Not clue on clamp size.....they are big like the ones on the clean out tunnels.

Murf, the model I have listed in my notes is the Attwood 665533. Here is a picture with some additional notes I made @Bruce, the Stainless Steel scupper flange is larger diameter than the nylon one that is stock. So the left and right edges may interfere with it sitting flush against the surface of the transom inside that recess. scupper valve.jpg

Okay, mine is probably due to be replaced. I just checked amazon and it was $98. I then checked iboats and it was $71. Where are y'all getting these from? Does Bass Pro carry them in their store? How about West Marine?
What am I supposed to do if I don't have access to a grinder? Are we sure there's not one that's made to fit already?
