No, At least 2 and maybe 3 will be on the ferry...I am a little on the crazy side but not crazy enough to cross with 3 on a ski :)

There was one boat that was crossing alone and looking for crew. I think his wife and kids were flying. I forget his handle right now. :banghead:

Unfortunately no reservations and they are charging twice what they were 2 years ago.

I have a call scheduled 2 weeks before our trip to see if HarborTowne can block some space off for us.
I'm sure some extra green stuff will be needed for reservation of spots.

Maybe start a separate thread poll to gauge what it's worth to those involved....$20? $40 $50???

Yeah. That's me. @Betik mentioned that his friends might be interested in crewing up if they decide to do the bimini crossing. My wife and kids will either fly into Bimini (or) take one of the ferries.

I plan to spend a couple of days on my boat sometime in March/April in the Florida Keys and get familiar with offshore boating. Any suggestions on this ?

Best
Amar

So far the only 90% confirmed friend is Sarah. I can bet money your wife will not allow Sarah being your only crew. I know this for fact because Claire is insisting that she is the boat when Sarah is on the boat. LOL.
I will defiantly let you know if Mike ends up joining though.

No worries Betik. My friend's girlfriend is planning to come with me in the boat, rather than fly in. So I am covered. Your friend Mike is welcome if he decides to come.

If you are crossing with 2up I would highly recommend you be prepared to cross on your own. The boats in normal conditions will probably run between 20 to 25mph. In good conditions they'll probably be running 25 to 30ish. I personally think I would have a hard time keeping up for the duration of the trip if I was riding with a passenger. If you are fixed on going 2up, I would depart with the first group with the hope that some of the later groups will be passing by if you start to fall off pace. Just be prepared to ensure both skis are set up to make the journey solo as it's highly possible you will get separated.

Isn't there a jetski group crossing to Bimini around that timeframe? I thought I saw it in one of the threads discussing this.

Is anybody else planning to Fly to Bimini? If so let me know as it is better to fly in as a group and go to the bimini sands. We can plan on the date and time they can fly in and book tickets accordingly.

I am giving that a maybe. A very large jet ski group is planning to cross on the Thursday that we are there. I believe it to be that groups first trip and loosely organized at this point.

I personally would NOT want the extra worry if there was a 2up ski in my group...
Too much can go wrong... This places extra (unnecesary) BURDEN on the rest of the group.

We are prepared, and originally planning, to cross as a pair. We definitely do not expect anyone to wait on us. PLB, dedicated GPS, hx870 with backup gps and mob, spare 5 gal fuel per ski. If there are others that travel at the speed waves permit for us great. If not I bet we enter the marina before customs finishes clearing everyone :) I too would find the trip easier not 2 up, just trying to keep peace in the house...

I would simply run a "dress rehearsal" offshore, deliberately choosing to go in rough-ish weather. Chances are, you will know whether or not crossing w/two up is a viable plan for you, within few short miles. If it is - that's awesome. But if you decide otherwise, you will at least have a concrete basis to make your decisions, no argument.

I crossed in a 190 last year which I did not think was a big deal. Well, lets just say, I'm still paying for it...

Sounds like you have it covered and have the right expectations. If I were you I would still leave with the early group(s) and as you fall back more boats will be catching up. You may or may not make the whole trip with sight of others but at least this will increase your chances of going a greater distance with them in sight. Who knows, maybe you exceed expectations and keep up but as I said before as long as you're prepared not too you'll be good. Please post your experiences riding 2up as I've not spoken directly with anyone who has done that but would love to hear your perspective. I'm already looking forward to reading @Betik trip reflection.

We have tickets for Silver Airways # 126 departing at 3:55pm for my mother , my daughter (5), my son (3) and father in law. My FIL is a maybe as he actually lives in South Korea and will have to fly in just for the Bimini trip.
We choose the 3:55pm flight in order to make sure that my wife and I have arrived safely in Bimini before the rest of the family boards the plane.

In terms of return, we will all ride the boat. I hear return rides tend to be smoother and our boat should be a bit lighter in terms of groceries and other miscellaneous items that we plan to "abandon" in Bimini.
