Ahhh, the age old debate. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of them. The early Ford 6.0's had problems that could easily be sorted out for a real solid 400K mile motor once it is bullet proofed. It is also pre emission restriction except for the EGR (exhaust gas re-circulation valve), which you would want blocked off. I'd skip the 6.4 because it sucked down the fuel... however you can put a tuner on that thing and an exhaust for $1500 and run sub 14 second 1/4 miles on a stock tranny pushing 500hp 1000ft/lbs of torque. The 6.7 has proven itself as reliable engine combined with an excellent 6R140 tranny. The Allison tranny set the bar for sure, but the 6R140 stepped it up a notch. We can go on for days comparing them, drive them all and see which one you love.

I keep saying I have to sell my car. So I wash it up and take it for a quick spin and fall right back in love with it. But, seriously... it has got to go!
The 6.0L bullet proofed did make them good, I had no issues with my 2012 6.7L, just liked the 2500HD much better with the Duramax/Allison.

It was a difficult decision getting rid of my Z06, there were a lot of things I did not enjoy about owning it, like keeping it perfect, parking way out in the parking lot so people would not door ding it, scratch it, and I really hated when people tail gated me when driving the car. Most Corvette Buyers are extremely picky people, they want to buy a car that is perfect in every way shape and form. To me keeping it perfect drove me nuts. I can hop in my diesel truck, enjoy driving it, and don't worry about it.

Man, that sounds just like my wife. She still drives her 2005 4runner and refuses to get anything new because she doesn't want me to say anything about parking way out, keeping it clean, not letting the little one eat or drink in it, etc. So, you are not alone in that thinking.

Wow...80,000# diesel truck/trailer runs over a 7000# truck and does that. It shows it just does not matter if your bed is steel or aluminum ;), or if it has a gas or diesel engine. All trucks will fail if put UNDER those conditions.

Nissan came out with a new Cummins for this year. I tried to talk my wife into a new Colorado with a duramax. 6 inch lift and fuel mileage.
I bought the Colorado and pulling an AR190 get about 17mpg but without average is closer to 27mpg. We like it since the kids are all gone but really would like to have a full size some day.

So after having my truck for a few months and doing what I needed to do to it I am completely happy with it. 2008 F-250 6.4. Here is what it has, H&S mini max tuner, already had a K&N cold air kit, DPF delete, egr turned off, egr coolers gone. Those were the issues making the truck unreliable. I have shift tuning on the fly and I can monitor everything with a credit card sized screen. Power levels are stock, 80, 120, and 250 horsepower. 250 extra horse is stupid nuts. Instant tire smoke at will. Gas mileage went from 12-14 ( hand calculated ) to 16-21. What the issue was ford used cylinder 7 and 8 to dump raw fuel down into to cylinder to clean the dpf filter, this is the 2 cylinders that get washed out. Super happy with my truck now and probably will never go back to a half ton when I go to buy one again.

I saw a video where they said if u take the dpf off the 6.4 that the tu ung need to be adjusted to aupport it. A lot of peole just did the delete but would run the factory timing... also the 6.4 doesnt have enough headstuds per cylender.. juat like the 6.0. But if u dont do anything stupid with it that normally isnt a problem.

I did a ton of research after I bought this truck and what the biggest problem with these trucks were was self induced. MAINTAINENCE is key. Proper oil and fuel filter changes.

Agreed.. i just bought a 2006 f250 with the 6.0... it is the same.. these motors are dependant on clean fuel and clean oil... either one of those lapse and u have issues.

Yep. Same with the Euro clean diesels. People think "oh it's a diesel what can go wrong, right...?"
Well, these engines run so freaking hot the exhaust is like two thousand F. No kidding. The oil turns to tar quickly and if you are not staying on it - bad news.
I think the oil changes and maintenance need to be at least twice more frequent than recommended, that's how I roll.
Those official recommendations have to consider sales, and if they tell you your car or truck needs two times the maintenance of an new gasser - many people will go somewhere else.

Just met up with my buddy who brought home a fully loaded 17' platinum F250 6.7.
My truck is on the left. I know I'm a little biased towards ford but I try to be objective. I can tell you this... this truck is head and shoulders above my truck. The technology is the same as high end cars. The lights are all LED and are top notch. The power delivery is smooth and consistent. The interior is excellent... much less plastic nonsense.

Overall I am extremely impressed and the bar is definitely set for the other two companies to catch up to.

But for $74k... I guess it should be.

I have seen a few of the new trucks on the roads, have not looked at the interiors except for some pics someone posted in this thread. That was my disappointment with my 2012 F-250 Diesel, all the plastic, when we looked at 2016's, same thing, interior had not changed. Then we looked at the Silverado's and man they were nice, so we bought two Lol. My Wife has 13K on her truck and I just turned 10K on mine, very happy with these Duramax/Allison HD's - this comes from a Ford guy.

I just want a loaded 10K to 12K tow rated half ton diesel that gets 25+ MPG. Ram's EcoDiesel hits my consumption and size goals but inexplicably misses the two rating by a wide margin. Maybe Ford will come out with an aluminum diesel F150 that will provide the tow capacity.

If not I am likely to get another Sierra Denali in the near future and keep feeding that 6.2.
Funny reading this thread from the past and here come 2018 F-150's with V-6 Diesels.

I bullet-proofed my truck just from buying the right one. Just made sure it was made by a company that already knew how to build diesels and then added the Aisin tranny. Perfection.

I have never been a Dodge Fan, the only good thing in a Dodge Truck is the Cummins - way too many bad experiences in the past with Mopar, only Chevy & Ford these days.

Actually they all make decent products with the exception of the last decade of Ford Diesels (the old 7.3 was very good). Are you thinking of older Dodge Vans? Notorious for front end issues on-par with Fords twin-Ibeam mess, worse than Ford actually. But I have been on Ram forums since 2008 and front suspension is rarely brought up. With the exception of lifted trucks having death wobble (common across many brands actually). And I've owned Ram trucks into the 240K mile range with nothing replaced on front end steering.
