Realistically I'm not going to do any other mods because I tend to have a problem and dont know when to stop!! First step to recovery is admission of said problem....right??

So with that being said, do you think the juice is worth the squeeze by just deleting the Ribbon and airbox thingy?

Thanks!!

Yes it's absolutely worth doing. Many don't even purchase the rings. There's a thread about it from last summer. I'd say 10 to 15% gain in mid range throttle response and 300 to 400 more RPMs at wot on my boat.

After reading about it for weeks I finally went out in the garage and surprised myself. Took about 30 minutes on my SX190. I'm excited to see the performance difference.

I did it. Didn't take long, reversible if it didn't do anything. It raise my WOT RPM by about 200RPMs. No difference in consumed fuel, no other differences I can see or feel.

I see top end gains around 200rps but havent really played with it yet. Not sure what results are without rings so cant help with that

Just to touch back on this....I did it w/out the spacers and took me about 45 minutes the first motor and 30 on the second. I didn't realize the airbox slides right off the mounting nuts. Once I figured this out it went a lot faster! So it definitely feels smoother. I think I did gain some top end and a couple hundred rpms, but it just feels better!!
Thanks for the advice!

Did you remove the air box boots/snorkels too?

Perfect, then you should be getting the maximum gain out of the mod.

What are the "air box boots"? I'll have to look tomorrow and see. This mod scares me I must admit, but it might be time as my confidence rises with each new mod I do.

Yank it out once you open the filter:

It does open up the filterbox - a positive change in air flow. Ribbon delete will give you some 150-200 RPM on top, "snorkel" mod maybe another 50. That is assuming you are NOT riding on the rev limiter (above 7,800 RPM) to start with, of course.

Here are more pics of the air filter box open, snorkels out:

One trick is not to mess with the bolts that hold the filter boxes, just wiggle the boxes out/off of the rubber mounts. You will see what I mean when you look into it in your boat.
Another trick is to use a wood screw to pull the ribbon out, it can be hard to grab/pull out.
It really is pretty strait forward, just disconnect the throttle body, don't loose any bolts, gaskets. Follow RIVA's instructions.

Then of course - report back with some pics!

I finally got around to the ribbon delete this afternoon. No problem , both ribbons removed in less than an hour. However , I spent the next 30 minutes trying to jiggle , twist , pry , etc. the snorkel from the air filter housing. Got afraid I was going to crack or break something and gave up !! Any tips or more pics would be greatly appreciated. I know that @swatski said is was NOT necessary to remove the filter housing from the engine compartment front bulkhead but I just could not get the feel for doing it. I would really like to give it another shot in order to achieve max benefit from the mod ? Am I wiggling the filter housing off the bulkhead OR wiggling the snorkel out of the housing?
