So when I first started looking at jet boats I thought no way would a Yamaha bucket do what I have seen Hamilton marine jet drives do. But since no pleasure boat dealer will offer bucket controls independent of the throttles I had to compare many more things leading me (my wife really) to the yamaha. Until they will offer us independent bucket and throttle controls the true potential of jet boats will not be reached. Some will say that no wake mode in a Yamaha gives you that but your left with an inferior bucket. But I digress and don't want to pull this thread off topic.
My exciter had one lever for bucket control and then 2 throttles. It would do both buckets at the same time however.

So by doing one engine on a dual engine boat will it side step essentially? I would love to see how it goes with that setup.

So we had two bucket levers and two throttle levers. You could literally walk the boat sideways. Never move forward or back just side to side it was called crabbing. It all came down to bucket control. Using one in forward other in reverse. @Bruce would love to know more about that.

Search the forum for Gaffrig. That is the most common throttle used to separate out the controls. I have seen them used on eBay for ~$400 or closer to $1k new.

Wonder if you could clean up the wake using the gate control for wakesurfing? Almost like wakesurfing in "no wake" mode?

@Bruce you'll be able to use any version of Thrust Vectors but older versions of XV and all XL models will require a bit of trimming on the leading edge of the fins, which we can provide a template for.

Also we'll be glad to upgrade older versions to the latest and greatest XVs at a discounted rate. We'll call it customer loyalty discount! Lol

How does it react in neutral where some of the water is being pushed down? Would it have a similar effect when turning the wheel in neutral?

@RobA the control in neutral is minimal since flow through the Lateral Thruster is minimal. We have tested in reverse at idle power and I can tell you that the control is great. I was able to pivot around a piling and maintain the same position as I pivoted all the way around, approximately 3 feet from the boat. The control is remarkable.

@Speedling we have tried to get it to crab walk and I can tell you that if you have any momentum towards the dock, even slight momentum, you can crab walk it towards the dock. But if you're sitting still or if there is a breeze away from the dock you won't be able to crab walk it. At least I can say that I have not been able to.

@JetBoatPilot will...forgive me if you've answered this questions...but the videos you've posted are the twin engine boats outfitted with a double setup or the single with one on the port and one on the starboard??

@bobbie The twin engine videos that have been posted thus far are labeled Twin Engine so they will feature the twin engine setup. When we show footage of the Tandem Single Engine Setup we'll label it clearly to minimize confusion. I am planning on posting up some of those videos tonight or tomorrow.

I will draw my experience with the navy jet boats. The bucket was much closer to a brp design from what I can tell almost identical. Yamaha seems to be the outlier in that regard. So I guess I was agreeing with you @Robert Sands because I know that the bucket design for brp is almost identical to what we had in the navy. Just no where near as robust. But flow was the same.
Freaking Squid. . . . . it all makes sense now somehow. [flag]
