The smiths lights are great. They act just like the tail lights ....break lights and blinkers. I'm super happy with them for less than $30 off amazon.

I know this is an old thread but I really enjoy reading....and learning....
So as I am in the process of purchasing my Veve guides, I to decided on the smith lights.
My question is, did you connect these a certain way so that they can be used as break lights and blinkers? I was reading on e-trailer that these are only running lights.

Since the front of the CE-Smith lights are Yellow, and the backs are Red, I left them strictly as running lights.

I think that I too will be going that route.
But I must say that I do like the idea of them being used as a break light being that they sit at near eye level when someone is driving behind me.

If it was 2 separate bulbs I might have done that. But I believe it is 1 bulbs straddling 2 different color reflectors. You could always mount another light for breaks/blinkers up high on the posts.

Hey Devildog,
I was looking for another set up on you tube where they had what you are mentioning
This guy had put pipe lights with the Smith lights on top as running light.
As I was looking for that video again, I found the e-trailer video for the smith lights install. As I was looking at it, the guy was backing up his trailer and the smith lights which were on appeared to work as break lights as well. Maybe an optical illusion...lol.
Anyway, thanks for the info.
By the way don’t forget, 4 more day till Nov. 10th.... SemperFi!

So, old thread I know, but hate to start a new one on almost the same subject. Got the 65" Ve-Ve guides and Smith lights. As I'm sitting here waiting for my haircut I realize that the guides are designed to rest on top of a bracket on the metal post and rotate while the CE Smith lights are directional. What did you guys do to prevent rotation? I was thinking of drilling a couple holes at the base of the pvc and zip tie to the brace. Think that would work?

You've come to the right thread. . . Drill the PVC through the metal post it sits on and put a cross bolt thru it. (it may actually be included).

Perfect, thank you. Definitely a more stable solution. I'll check the hardware when I get home. Otherwise it's another unsupervised visit to home depot. I hate it when that happens. Haha.

0627 Devil dog is correct. The bolt was included in my set. I was thinking like you were only to realize that the pvc does not rotate. The pvc pads help the boat guide /slide rt in. If anything needs to rotate, the pads will and not the pvc.

So reading instructions really helps, and all the hardware was included. Thanks for your help guys!

Sorry to hit you guys with another question. I got the first post installed and it seems so close to the bottom of the hull. Did you guys trim off the excess or is this Ok?

I was worried about that too so I just ran them up to the bunks. they're a little tight but still work fine.

Just an FYI, you can also run them on the bottom side if you are worried about being to close.
As for the Smith Lights, I ran the wire through the inside of the steel all the way through. I then ran it along inside using zip ties. There is plenty to make it to the connection.
The instructions say run it through the pvc if I remember correctly (I could be wrong...it’s been a while...lol) but I didn’t want the pvc tube pinching the wire at the bottom side.

You have them flush to the bunk? I didn't think I could get the boat in and out with the posts that close. I think my posts are about 3 inches or so from being flush with the bunk.

Yeah mine are slightly lower than the bunks so I ran them so they’re touching and maybe 1/4” under the bunks. It’s a tight fit but it works. If this rain lets up I’ll try to snap a picture.
