I'm torn. Will use the boat for wakeboarding and towing tubes. From the research I've done the supercharged engine doesn't yield that much more hp. And gets about half the mpg.

I will typically have 8 people on the boat towing a tube or wakeboarder. Thanks for your response :)

There is a big difference in power from a 1.8 to a SVHO 1.8. The 160mm pump on the 195 is also a big difference vs 155mm. Yes fuel consumption will be higher on the supercharged engine and also worth mentioning is the SVHO recommends premium fuel. That being said I'd take a 195 over a 190 just because of the larger pump and extra punch from the hole and midrange. If you're tubing and pulling people both versions of the single engines are going to burn through fuel.

8 people is going to be a lot to ask for regardless of supercharger or not on this boat. If you routinely plan to have that many people, plus gear, coolers, etc then I would look into a larger boat. Can you fit that many people on the 19' boats? Sure but it's not going to be all that fun IMO.

You make some great observations. The reason I want to go with a boat this size is that it is the max weight and length my floating dock can support.

Even though the base non supercharged engine gets better gas mileage I wouldn't be surprised if they are pretty close mpg wise if the boat is being used fully loaded most the time.

Seems like the ar195 is the best value and performance per dollar for the weight/size ratio.

I have the AR195 and last weekend had it loaded with gear, 4 adults, 2 larger kids and 2 small kids. Still plenty of power and it didn't feel crowded. loving this boat!

The wife and I went through this same discussion......we chose the 190 over the 195....

The 190 has better fuel economy, and uses 87 instead of 93 octane fuel. The fuel burn calculations made (using fuel burn numbers from boattest.com) showed about $250/mo in additional fuel over a 12 month period assuming 100hrs/year, a price difference of about $0.75/gal, and a fuel burn difference of 2 gallons per hour (4 for the 190, 2 for the 195). Those are rough numbers, but you get the idea. The difference in fuel can be significant.

Capacity discussion.....We've had an 19ft class boat before (18'6" Rinker). 8 people on that boat was TOO CROWDED and not fun for anyone. When we decided that our "typical" load would most likely be 4 adults and 2-3 kids (two average families) we found that the 19' would be enough. 8 Adults on our 190 will be OK, but still crowded, and this is with the improved room in the Yamaha over our older Rinker. We've had 4 adults and 1 kid out already and it was plenty spacious, more adults at the raft up this past weekend quickly showed we were stuffed at 8 adults.

Power....The 195 offers more holeshot, and more top end......OK, when are you going to use more holeshot? With a heavy load, from our capacity discussion we had already ruled that out as a valid scenario. We're considering a typical load to be 7 passengers with 2-3 of those being children. So the use case for a heavy load and holeshot is gone. Now, lets look at top speed. Sure 50mph on the water is great, but when am I going to actually need/want to do that. I know from previous use that the family doesn't like much over 40, and really, we're never in a need to rush on the water that 35-40 isnt' going to cover us. The 190 covers that just fine.

Value.....The 190 lost this one. The 195 is an exceptional value for what you get. Upgraded speakers, bigger engine, bigger pump, platform turf, powder-coated windshield and tower. The extra $5k-ish here is definitely WORTH the money between the two. I think the guys with the 195 got a better bang for their boating buck than I did in terms of equipment.

In the end, it was the additional fuel burn without a real "need" for the power that really tipped the scales for us over to the 190 from the 195. We preferred the graphics and colors a little better on the 190 (little less aggressive to the wife), as well as the brushed tower and gray windshield over the black. They are the same length and weight essentially, so towing and storage was a wash between the two. So far we've been pleased with the performance of the 190.

I really think a good hard look at your intended usage, and how realistic that is will lead you to the right choice. You can hear from us all day long, but no two people use their boat the same, and that weighs VERY heavily in the decision.

Thanks. It's currently giving me fits staying cool, as well as tons of maintenance issues. It's an '06 with only 80k miles on it, so it sat for a good portion of it's life before I got it. I shoved into daily driving and towing duties, so lots of little things are popping up to be dealt with. It's an AWD truck as well, so it's heavy and not great on fuel. Tell you what though, 400hp/400ft-lbs is plenty of motivation in this package. Pass most things (except gas stations) on the road!

I too went through that same discussion but ended up with a AR195 Mostly because I had talked the dealer a few months earlier and decided to wait then he called me back the last of a boat show and had a 2017 AR195 left and told me he could sell it to me for 30,600 with the bow and mooring cover (and threw in the shipping cover also) so I sent them a check. Using the figures from Boattest.com if both boats go the same speed their is about a 2 gal/hr difference. But when I did the calculations I came out with different figures (but I probably forgot something)
AR190 Gal/Hr-6, price/gal- $2.15, Hours-100, Total fuel 600 Gal, Fuel cost - $1290, Cost/month $107.50
AR195 Gal/Hr-8, price/gal- $2.90, Hours-100, Total fuel 800 Gal, Fuel Cost - $2320, Cost/month $193.33
That is a difference of $85.83 per month (over 12 months) more. For me I thought that was worth the price but as I said I may have not figured this correctly. And this is assuming that you never go WOT with the 195 which I know is not going to happen. :winkingthumbsup"

One thing to keep in mind about fuel. I always try and stay away from ethanol which means I run 91 octane as around here you can't find 87 ethanol free. I guess my point is I ran 91 one in my 190 and I'm running 91 in my 195. Don't get me wrong I burn through more fuel but it's totally worth it! On the flip side the main reason I upgraded to a 195 was for a tower. If they would had a forward swept tower back in 2012 I would of purchased one and still own it today. I looked at adding a tower however the only one I could find I like was the factory one (mostly due to I wanted a polished one as my window trim was grey).

I'm fortunate to have a "rec gas" pump right around the corner from the house. Zero Ethanol content, and no road tax. It's less expensive AND better for the boat. The fines are high if you put in something that goes on the road though! Sadly ALL of our road fuel locally has Ethanol in it, up to 15% at some locations, even the 93 Octane stuff!

Interesting that the tower was a reason for the 195. When we bought, the tower on the 190 and the 195 were the same EXCEPT for color. We actually preferred the natural aluminum color on the 190 over the 195. Same with the windshield, we didn't like the black trim on the 195 as much as the silver on the 190. Mostly out of concerns about touching it in the middle the day in the sun.

I still contend you can't go wrong with either. I've not heard of many people who bought a 190 and upgraded to a 195. Sure have heard a lot of people buy a 19ft in general and upgrade to a 24ft though.

Keep in mind my 190 was a 2012, I do agree both boats are great.

I know I’m probably in the minority but I’ve always liked the backward swept tower on the 19ft boats. Now on the 24fts I really prefer the forward swept towers.

Got the 2017 sx 195 and absolutely love it. Performance is awesome she gets up to 53-54mph fastest on the water it seems. Got the SX instead of the AR beacause of the 2nd captain chair. AR has fold around bench. Also major reason was the tower... the SX is foldable and we fit her in the garage. AR is also but still sits too high and will not fit in most normal garages.

Congrats on the purchase. Sure hope you didn't buy that truck to pull that boat! Have just a shade more capability than you need there :D

An AR will fit in the same garage as SX will fit in. I made a video how to do it.

No need to yell. Everyone spends their nickels differently, and we all want what we want. If you're happy with your purchase than that's all that really matters!
