Agree it is up to us to be respectful to property and shorelines. It pisses me off when I see someone surfing when there are docks close by. Then again some lakes are small and often crowded with homes sprinkled all along the shoreline so what can they really do at that point besides go to another lake which is not ideal so there needs to be a balance. The biggest issues on the lakes we boat on aren't really wake boats. It's the pontoons and bass boats I seem to have the most issue with. I've seen more idiots driving a pontoon completely oblivious to their surroundings and just meander around like nobody else is on the water or around them. They will cut you off with no warning. They'll ride your ass because you break the waters ahead of them. They are usually filled with drunk people and about 3 Yeti coolers full to the brim. The bass boat owners also are often a pain in my ass. They fly around the lake doing well over 70 mph while cutting corners around blind bends like they're trying to find an apex on a race track. God forbid you just happen to want to use a piece of nice calm water for watersports yet they are tucked near the bank and they literally think they own the water. Jet skis also follow us like a fly on a horses ass. When they get close and keep jumping my wake I will just stop and give them a look. Most times they leave but sometimes they keep coming back and will circle around the boat as we are going down the lake. Just stupid behavior. Seen plenty of wake boats doing stupid shit too like surfing way too close to the shore or my personal pet peeve, surfing in the cove everyone is hanging out in. Everyone needs to do their part to try and be respectful to others in the water, especially those that live on the lakes.

I can see why the jet skis are annoying, but my friends and I ride stand up jet skis (responsibly) and jumping the wake is not inherently dangerous, assuming:
- if you’re (the jet skier) scaring the tuber/rider behind the boat then you stop jumping their wake, period. This usually isn’t an issue since the tuber/rider is so focused on the task at hand.
- maintain legal/smart distance back from rider before you approach (60ft is law here)
- always cut straight across the wake, never actually follow a boat where a fallen tuber/rider could get run over. I had to stop in the middle of pulling a tuber last weekend because of two dipshits doing this particular one - my dirty looks weren’t working.

If a jet ski is just jumping your wake and following the above then there isn’t any risk to your riders. I’ve taken some really nasty spills on wakeboards, skis, and tubes and I’ve yet to fall backwards from the direction the boat was traveling.

Ooh ooh me first! I think the responsible thing to do would to not follow or jump the wake of any boat that is actively towing a rider in any capacity. I wouldn't tolerate it personally. But that's just me...

Those laws seem generally consistent with what I said in a lot of states. Don’t follow, be unsafe, or cross at less than the minimum distance.

I’ve assumed the distance rule means after the end of the rope/rider but I guess that’s not clear.

I know there are a lot of dummies out there that are unsafe and give everyone a bad name and the concern is justified.

I'm sure you know what you are doing having seen this from both sides.
I'm just not really into it. Maybe because I have seen way too many "Missouri Specials" (as I like to call it) on my river over the years, and that just gives one pause. But I also don't see much of a wake 60ft behind a rider at the end of a 60ft rope, and in many places there is just not enough open space anyway. We try to avoid crowded coves but if there is nothing else and we are doing skilled sports I become very protective of my riders.

I kept trying to think of something less menacing/redneck than pulling an actual gun on someone threatening my rider (because that is what they're doing). Paintball gun would work perfectly for this. My luck I'd hit them in the eye and get sued.....

So back to fins for a min. Yesterday I finally took the plunge and removed 2 of my 4 fins on the neo. This isn't something to do if you can't stay in the pocket. But once you can stay there it opens up an entire new type of surfing. You can make much sharper turns with more control than before. But it's also very precise. Not much room for error. If you fall back and don't start pumping straight away you'll lose the push. I want to start entering comps next year when I turn 40. So I have to start surfing this way. It was so much fun and after a day I got it. Even almost landed my first air out. Surfed 4 outta last 5 days and it Def shows. I looked at my first video from last year and all the ones in between. Really neat to see profession from all the homies not just myself. Cause whats a great wave with nobody to surf it with you.

Looks like a ton of fun I really enjoy running with 2 fins vs 3 or 4. It adds so much agility. Maybe not always so visible for the spectator, but you feel it as the rider.

It's been 4 weeks since I surfed last due to my wife's recent diagnosis with hypertension... The treatment if working well, so I hope we manage to get out at least a few more times before we have to call it quits. I'm dying for a session...

I'm finally part of the actual surfing (ropeless) group lol! I wiped out a lot like this Disappearing man trick ....



.....but once I squared my shoulders to the boat instead of the the face of the wave I found the push and it was like a rocket shooting me to the swim deck. Put the 750 bag in the midship locker surf side and the Max woke right up!





That moment when it just clicks and you finally toss the rope....




....And we are surfing!!



I fell shortly after from being worn out from about 10 try runs before and wiping out but man it felt sooooo good to finally drop that rope. I still have a long ways to go but practice pays off!
