In some MYs the entire intake manifold is plastic, as long as there is a ring and not just the rubber boot alone, should be fine.

Just read this, I can’t believe how restrictive those “ Ribbons” are. Has to be a legitimate jump in MPG and HP across the entire usable RPM band. For those of you running K&N Filters, I would look for a quality “Non Oiled filter” and if worried about water possibly a “ Outer-wears” Bag or similar wrap. I believe AFE or S&B have multiple sizes of “Wraps/Bags” that actually “Wick/repel” water.
Just my thoughts. Remember you have blowers for a reason.

Finally got around to testing after the ribbon delete, weather has been bad here, cool and lots of rain.

After removing the airbox snorkels I couldn’t tell any difference in the sound levels from the engines.

After several runs on smooth water with no wind I figure I’ve gained about 200 rpm and about 2 mph on top end. Prior to the ribbon delete I was running roughly 7500 rpm and 57 mph with two people onboard and about 50% fuel. After ribbon delete I’m running about 7700 rpm and 59 mph. Acceleration is noticeably improved overall, midrange acceleration is much better, idle to plane seems quicker but I didn’t time this.

Was the effort involved to do the ribbon delete worth it? Even though I did get an improvement I don’t think I would do this mod again, 2 mph gain just really didn’t justify the effort. I plan on leaving the ribbons and snorkels out, no sense in putting them back now.

Thank you to everyone who posted tips and photos on how to make this job easier!!!
59mph on a yamaha jetboat? That’s impresive. I’m struggling to get passed 47mph on a brand new 242x

I think that was while the boat was being towed by his truck.
At least two members crossed the 60mph barrier! I believe either @Smitty78 or @SamCF or both topped 62. I never had thought it would have been possible, but those supercharged engines can be really squeezed and pushed. Nothing like that possible with 1.8 N/A, most you can do for top speed is ribbon delete which gains 100-200 RPM at WOT, so 1-2mph, if that.

For me, it is all about the hole shot, all that matters for cruising and surfing with heavy loads, and fuel economy, is the pulling power.

@geohill, I'm still trying to figure out, from when you first posted that picture in the 212 topic forum, how you got the starboard engine to turn the same rpm as the port engine. On a cool day, ribbons intact, I got my port engine to 7750, but the starboard one was 100 rpm lower, at 51 mph. I think most people's experience are similar, perhaps due to the wash from the port impeller interfering with the the starboard impeller, based on rotation direction.

Anyway, I think you have the record for 2017 and later 212 boats.

I have done nothing but the ribbon delete and used 3M 5200 to smooth out the transition from hull to rideplate, and rideplate to intake grate. I did not use the spacer kit and I only run regular Oregon crappy gas with sea foam. Oil is Mobile 1 full synthetic with K&N filters. I did not remove the snorkel or air box. I will say the day I ran 56 it was maybe 50 degrees out, but even loaded and a hot day I can run 54 across the lake.

Completed my ribbon and snorkel delete just now. On my boat (2019 242X) I did not have to remove the air boxes. I was able to loosen the hose clamp on the engine side, and remove the front (air filter) half of the air box. I then took a flat blade screwdriver and used it to break the orange glue around as much of the snorkel as I could. Then I just grabbed it and with a couple wiggles it popped out. With the snorkel out of the way there was plenty of room to do the ribbon delete while leaving the back half of the air box connected.
