Sold my ‘15 242 LS in September of 2018 with intentions of finishing my basement. Tried to do it myself but quickly learned I was in over my head and brought in a GC who only works with basements. He’s got more done in in 6 weeks then I have in 6 months trying to do the work myself. We are close to being done, but here’s some pics of the process. Will update more as we move along.

@AboveTheBest I miss the boat. The boss lady gave me the OK to get another as soon as this project is done.
We just went out on it today! It’s a wonderful boat. I think I’ll buy all my boats from you in the future :)

The basement is looking great!
I can’t wait to see how that bar turns out.

ugh, I’ve been dreaming of being out on a boat again. Miss it severely. I plan to dress the bar up with stone/brick/wood, etc just not sure what yet. I will keep updating this thread.

Looks great. That could have paid for a lot of gas though. :D

Painful as it is for me to say, good call in so many aspects. Have you thought the point this has gotten you with the legislative & judiciary part the house!!!

Progress has slowed, but cabinetry is in. Granite is going in next week on lower counters and bathroom only. Upper bar top will be some sort of wood top.

Walk out basement sweet looks great

Get a nice wood top for the bar

Get some of these put them in the utility room, by the sump pump and anywhere you think water could get in they saved my basement 3 times

Watchdog water alarm
doing wood bar top for sure. Contractor wanted to do granite, but giving me a hard time about having a 12 -13” overhang. He wanted to do something like 7”. It’s very important to me to be able to sit at bar comfortably and not have legs hit knee wall. Also, I really didn’t want granite on the bar top. Don’t mind granite on the lower counters though

7” is in my opinion is too short, but you might find 12” to be too much.

I went back and forth on this for a while and eventually settled on 9-3/4” (in some places 10”).

What I suggest is that you go to a few bars in the early afternoon when they’re no too crowded and bring a tape measure with you.
Sit at each of them and have a beer (for research purposes only) and see what depth/length feels the best.

You might find 12” to be too much and you might find it’s perfect, that’s up to you (definitely not the GC). You should probably bring your wife along too, as she may have a slightly different idea of the perfect depth.

*** I just measured the short side of my “L” and it looks like I went with 6.5”. That depth is great for a walk up bar, but if you put a stool there you end up sitting sideways or an angle because it puts the wall too close to your knees.

I think what we really need to do is set up a Jetboaters.net Basement Bar Crawl, where we drive all over the country drinking at each others homes :)

I've got an 8" overhang in my actual bar, and a 12" overhang in the kitchen island. The larger overhang is vastly more comfortable. For reference, I'm 6"1 and slim.
