We just got bad news from the dealer where we had ordered a '21 252SD back in October 2020. Our order is not going to be filled. The dealer says they are having trouble getting the Drive system components. Our options are 1) get in line for an AR250 or 2) be first on their list for 2022 when it comes out. They are saying July-Aug for 2022's but after this year's problems, I'm not confident.
Unless you've got non-refundable money there I'd try to see what you can find at other dealers. A 252SD down to an AR250 is a big step (though it would save you some coin). I wonder if you could find a 252SE or 252S somewhere? The 252SE is exactly like the 252SD you had on order except without the DRiVE paddle shifters.

How does Yamaha do their serial numbers, are the continuous for a specific boat length? There's a big enough sample of people on here that I think we could start tracking the last digits of the serial numbers to see if roughly the same number of boats are being produced and demand is up or if supply issues are causing the number of boats produced to go down.

Really sorry to hear that. I'd try the largest dealer within driving distance to see if they have any unsold allocation. Small likelihood, but worth a shot.

For what it's worth, my dealer (NY) is expecting my 255XD order to arrive in mid-march. I placed the order August of last year. He says he gets updates from the factory weekly.

I decided not to take the chance of waiting for the 2022s and purchased an in stock 2021 Cobalt R6. Quite a bit more money, but got $31k off msrp and will have it this season.

@markpolly Great Looking Boat!! I just watched the walk through. I would estimate circa 100k after discount? High quality and a lot of great features. You will enjoy it.

The R6 is amazing. If I boated on deep lakes and could store this thing I’m not sure why I would choose a dedicated Surf boat over this, as long as the wave is good. I love to surf but in all reality this a small percentage of our on water time. Keep us posted, give us some reviews after your able to get this on the water. Post some pictures of your boat as well.

The cleat is a great idea, however not sure how it will perform in the real world. If in calm conditions I think it will work great. However if it’s not calm just not sure how the rope will not wreck the locker cover. Let me know how this works out, as I wouldn’t mind adding this as well.
I installed the cleat on my 212 under the hatch and the rope rides to either side of the hatch cutout depending which way its wrapped on the cleat. Works great! Hatch closes fine with no issues and the fiberglass is plenty thick in that area for good strength. Obviously the ladder can't deploy with the cleat up/rope attached which isn't really an issue since I don't use it.

I pondered doing something like that, but ended up using stainless carabiners tied into my anchor line at 30ft and 50ft points to clip on to the bow-eye instead. I didn't want anything rubbing the gelcoat. Then I discovered Danik Hooks and now use a stainless one for the anchor line and a couple of plastic ones for fenders - they work great and have strong holding power using a leveraged thumb-pivot that tightens as it gets pressure applied to the line. They're easily adjustable to whatever length but I generally anchor in coves at 10ft or less so I leave it at 50ft and it works great - clip it on the eye and I'm done in 5 seconds.

For safety I tie off the other end of the anchor line to the inside of the bow-eye in case there's ever a failure or they slip so I don't lose the anchor line (saw someone throw an anchor over once and they forgot to tie it off so they lost the line and anchor and floated away). But in a couple of years I've never seen them budge at all even in windy conditions.

We stopped at the Yamaha dealer because my wife had never seen a 252 before we ordered the SD. I wanted her to get a feel for the size compared to a different brand’s 23’ we looked at. While talking to the salesman she wandered into the Cobalt R6 to look around. On the way home she decided ‘we’ wanted the cobalt. So we called when we got home and transferred our deposit to that. We just sold a 2020 Regal LS4 Surf that was absolutely beautiful. We chose it over the R6 because of the split rear lounge seating, but to me both boats feel much more solid than the 252 (tested one recently) and both are more luxurious IMO. My issue was with the launching and using the forward drive in the waters near our home. Lots of shallow water and stumps in our area, and launching/recovering the forward drive was a bit of a nightmare on most ramps due to how high it sat on the trailer. Always had to get two or three of us waste deep and lift the boat off the trailer even with my 4x4 too far in the water for my liking. Though we LOVED the Regal, it came down to opting for a surf model jet boat to lesson the stress and effort. So now we wait for our 255XD (fingers crossed). I think you'll love the Cobalt in your area; we would have definitely kept the LS4 Surf if we had the right lakes nearby. Enjoy!

Yamaha production is struggling along with a kinda of industries, I was thinking about a new Yamaha RMAX 1000 UTV and hearing production is 6 months behind.

also I love the R6 Surf or the Crownline Surf series, one those will probably be my next boat as Cumberland is a deep lake that I think would be great with them. Also interested to see how Mercruisers new forward drive compares to the Volvo offering.

I heard a somewhat similar thing from my salesman when I drop my boat off for add-ons. They are 'supposedly' the largest seller of Yamahas in the US between their three locations in MN. Their allocation was cut by nearly 50%. I only bring up the largest dealer part b/c they have preferential placement with the factory. Some people received calls that they wont get a 2021. That said, I assume that means the people who DIDN'T get a call is still earmarked by Yamaha. I am guessing there will be very little 'on-site' purchases, mainly just pre-orders.

If you have an order in, I would call your dealer and ask if they have received word on what their allocation is, if you are still on the list, and breathe easy. If your dealer has no clue what you are talking about, that should raise a red flag for sure.
If you look at their website they’re taking preorders for the 2022s. They’re asking $67k for a AR250 ($6,000 over MSRP!). Having said that I’m wondering if Yamaha is going to be releasing the 2022s a lot sooner. They also have a picture of an AR195/sx195 with a different paint color. So they must have some sort of info.

I would take all that with a grain of salt. Dealers were doing that last year as well.

I've heard of several dealers now that have already pre-sold their 2021 allotments and are starting to take reservations on 2022 models. Kind of a bummer for those still looking to find new boats this year as they may not get them in time to enjoy them this summer.

To your comment above, is one of the different paint colors you're seeing in the picture below? If so, that's not a new 2022 paint color; it's an old 2020 paint color. They also have an image of an SX195 on there with an old 2020 paint color.

Yamaha plays their cards very close to the vest when it comes to new product info so it's highly unlikely they would have shared any new info with dealers yet, no matter how big of a dealership they are. And any imagery of new product posted to a dealer website before it was officially announced by Yamaha would be an egregious error by the dealer.

Yeah. if I remember correctly, they were pre-selling 2021 242 models late spring/early summer, even though Yamaha changed the model to the 252 with significant updates. Yamaha didn't announce the changes until August I believe. Call it speculative marketing?
