@upperdeck, Yes, the display replaces your speedo. It also is the control.

@jdonalds, I am borrowing your picture here.

Follow up question to the speedo one, does the control require new battery power at the helm, or does it splice into existing lines. I put my amps near the battery to avoid running power to the helm area.

@jawsf16, the installation instructions state

1. Purple Power Cable is connected to any purple wire in boat wiring using Blue “Tee Tap” provided in kit. Purple is positive power when key is in on position. Black wire is connected to any heavy black wire in the dash for ground using Blue “Tee Tap” provided. Once purple and black wires are connected plug white power into power port on Master Control Module.

Not sure I would want to just hook up to "any purple wire" but this leads me to believe that the power draw is very low so there is no need to run a separate power supply.

Thanks Bruce! I think Perfect Pass would allow me to spend some time behind the boat instead of driving it. Really excited about the group buy.

That's exactly why it's awesome. My wife couldn't understand why I was always telling her to speed up then moments later to slow down. Jet boats don't deliver a constant speed at a given rpm. Therefore everytime she would throttle back, the boat would lose plane and slow to under 9 mph. Then when she would throttle up, the boat would come back on plane and speed up to 30 mph. I will say that it was a thrill ride, but not a fun wakeboard outing.

The pp system lets me pre program program multiple speed settings. I can select which setting I want, put the wakeboard on, jump in the water with the ski rope. All she has to do is take up the slack and advance the throttles until she hears the "beep". Then the system locks in on the pre set mph to within .2 mph.

Believe me. It's safer, because the operator can focus on everything other than the constant throttle jockeying. It's also more enjoyable. No more frustrating wakeboarding from 9-30mph.

@Bruce another question!

It appears that the pp interfaces with boat rpm. Does it engage both and display rpm for both motors? If so, this is a huge advantage for our Bimini crossing for maintaining peak cruising fuel efficiency...

@upperdeck I believe the two RPM gauges are unaffected and still display normally.

I figured the stock gagues operate normally. But PP has an rpm mode. My question is if the rpm mode in PP monitors/displays and adjusts both motors. In other words, can PP control both motors by rpm rather than velicity/gps measurements.

Clear as mud I know...

Ah hah. interesting. I just figured it was a speedo only gauge... learning something new here.

In our boats, it may not monitor rpm at all. When I looked at the install manual, I didn't see anything describing wiring the unit to get a feed for rpm. Maybe I missed it? Perhaps a call to PP? Or a jet boater with one installed can chime in?

It does monitor RPMs as well. But only on one tach. It then mirrors both controls the same. I believe that the rpm mode will hold a given rpm and not a set speed. But I'm not 100% sure. I've never had need for that.

@itsdgm
So it can set a given rpm that you want, provided by one engine, then the servos duplicate the position on the other engine? That would be a nice option for cruising a long distance in varying conditions. I think a nice steady rpm would be preferable to surging throttles to maintain a given speed in rough waters...

I'm pretty sure that's what the rpm mode will do for you. I've never made a long haul like that in the Yamaha though. To be 100% sure you could contact Perfect Pass. Their customer service is amazing

I have their phone number as (902) 468-2150 I had a few quick questions during install and Dan walked me through it like he was sitting right next to me. They really know their product.

@upperdeck if a constant RPM mod is what you want, sounds like its time to upgrade to a new 212x with cruise assist!! Although, perfectpass will cost way less...

With all the mods I've done to the boat (VHF radio, amps and sub, chart plotter, underwater LEDs) it would be REALLY pricey!!!

So I called PP this morning. They stated that the newer boats have a rpm system that they have not tapped into. My boat, 2009 212X, is able to have the rpm tapped into, but they have to build a special edition PP to do this since their standard PP for our boats does not utilize rpm. This is why Bruce's install directions does not address tapping into an rpm feed. Also, he confirmed that they would monitor one motor and then mirror the other to set by rpm.

Got the price from Jody...

$1250 is the price for the twin engines.

I'm really on the fence at that price!
