Short end of the story, I need two valve covers for my 2008 AR230 and I see they retail at a touch over $200, if they are available. Perhaps someone might have a set they would be willing to part with?

Long version...sub freezing temperatures were here in TX for almost 72 hours and I had thought before hand to put a couple of halogen lamps in the engine bay to keep things from freezing. I didn't realize that the valve covers were plastic and sure as shit, I melted holes in both of them from the heat of the lamps.

I bet no one can top this level of stupid...

Are you sure it is the valve covers or the top of the air boxes?

Good questions...I will take a picture and post tomorrow.

It is the top most part on the engine, I just figured it was the Valve Cover by the pictures that I found online

I think you need the air filter assembly cover. Part 15. They were molded in black for the 140hp 998 cc Mr1s and silver for the 160hp 1,052 cc mr1s.

After looking that exploded view, I am 99% sure it is that part - the four plastic clips that are shown in that view are definitely what is holding the outside edges of the cover down. So, the pain $$$ wise is only half the original estimate and mine are silver. They want almost $50 each for the decal that goes on top...there some Yamaha Pride...I will skip that expense!

If anyone has a used pair they can part with I am happy to make a deal and I will still get picks after the sun comes up today.

Thanks for checking - I searched eBay for 6B6-14420-00-00 (specfic model PN) and the prices are the same as new in box (less the sticker, of course) so I think I will just buy new and be done with it. Before I order them, I will pull off the old lids to see if there are any other parts damaged - in particular the port cover...

The air filters are under the covers and are also plastic, at least the oem filters are. If you replace them I recommend you go with r&d or rica models which are cleanable and reusable and also double as flame arrestors.

I would be tempted to just seal those up and not worry about replacing them.

Seal and paint for $15 at Home Depot / lowes and an hour of effort, two including the round trip to the hardware store.

Curiosity peaked - what are you suggesting sealing them with? Part of a lid from another plastic container and bonded with 3M Marine adhesive?

Why need the bulb in the first place? These engines self drain as soon as engine stops..

I am replying to the OP of this thread. There was no need for the bulb to keep the engine warm, since the engine self drains the water, so no risk of cracked block

I was wondering the same thing. Why the need to keep the engines warm? Mine see freezing temps during the winter, no problems yet.
