Lol, that's sort of an interesting take. What's probably a bit more accurate take is "the only company selling a large volume.of EVs is slipping by amounts that equal to other brands total sales, in most cases.multiple ones combined".

Average year on year units sold, excluding Tesla, is +42% according to that data. Not sure how else to take it.

Percentages lie. The total YoY gain for the winners was 30k roughly. The total YoY loss for losers was roughly 27.5k, so that means they sold about 2500 EVs more in total. That says that there's basically a pie that's staying basically the same size, getting a little bit bigger, and people are just trading the size of their slice.

Which frankly, is exactly what I expect. Modest growth, but a LOT more competition within the space, all fighting for their ice of a pie that isn't as big as analysts said it was going to be.

Looks like more of a national policy/corruption issue than an EV issue.

Interesting concept though, just keep shipping them since you get rewarded on shipments not on sales.

It absolutely is an EV issue. Everyone on here is quick to point out stats about market demand and production output, gross revenue sales etc. but when you have large manufacturers essentially building bridges to nowhere doesn't that falsify the stats?? I just found it interesting and enlightening about what is going on in China. And this is only one instance that was caught.

Yea, we were.....but I've not heard of a manufacturer based anywhere EXCEPT China doing this, and we've been quoting/citing US sales numbers (as best I can tell anyway), so this isn't included in those reports, as I don't think China can sell cars here.

I stand on the premise this is a China issue, not an EV issue.

It's absolutely a China issue. China has been doing this for forever with everything. They're the worst culprit of dumping goods below cost, and as point out, the CCP will find them as long as they keep pushing product out and driving foreign competition out of business.

China's agenda is to become the only manufacturing superpower so that when they get into a war with whoever stands against them, they can win a war of attrition because nobody else will have any manufacturing capability left. WW2 was won on the backs of American manufacturing being effectively untouchable for the Axis powers. China can't directly strike out manufacturing capabilities, but they can and have wrecked it by intentionally dumping goods so cheap that domestic production can't compete. It was easy for them too, they made a large number of US elites really rich by making their companies more profitable short term and by bankrolling a good number of politicians.

Is it also an EV issue? Absolutely. Auto making is really one of the last large industries left in the US. China was never able to really disrupt that capability, but they have a huge opportunity to as our government pushes for a shift to EVs.

God willing, we put some serious tariffs on Chinese imports, and ban Chinese companies from being able to utilize NAFTA. If not, our children (and grandchildren for some of you older folks here) will be the ones who suffer from our greed.

Have you towed with it? Looks like the same 5000# tow rating as my Model X. I’d be curious if a plug in hybrid has similar torque to a BEV.

I still think Volvo had probably the best way to do a PHEV so far. The EV section is totally separate, it's an electric motor rear axle, and a ICE front axle. I don't love the implementation, or the motor they use, or the fairly poor towing capacity, but I'll be damned if I wouldn't use but a tank every few months if we charged one nightly, but could still drive it anywhere in the country without range issues.

If Volvo gets the reliability under control and goes a little more big in every way with the next XC90, it could be a winner. Would love to see them bring back the inline 5 or 6 to get a little less buzzy of a powertrain. Make it a bit longer and up the tow capacity. Would be a winner, the wife really liked how it looked and felt, just was a little too small for us in most ways.

Installing the 240V outlet in the garage was a game changer. Went from taking around 25 hours for a full charge to around 4 hours. My only complaint with the XC90 is the electronics and user interface. It's complicated and glitchy. My Ford has much better user interface of the center console. Maybe it's because they just didn't have enough room, I don't know. I hate clicking thru a main screen just to adjust how the air is blowing.

Did you do the installation yourself or buy it out? If you paid an electrician do mind sharing the cost?

I'm in a rental right now, and I've gotten permission to add a 240V outlet for a charger, but it has to be permitted and done by a professional. Just curious what that might run. If I owned the place I would learn how to do it myself.

I've got this local guy I found that is a retired electrician. He does small gigs to earn fun money and stay busy. I added the 240V outlet right next to the breaker panel in the garage, and I also had him add 2 more dedicated 110V outlets on the wall by the breaker panel so I could add 2 more electric extension reels for wood working. The total price with parts was right around $450.
