I am curious as well. I am talking with Larry at fresh air exhaust right now about an FAE system for my 2024 AR190. If this has been done with no improvement then I may not be as interested.
There is no improvements. Dont bother you will not get anything but an annoyingly loud boat
You will not make any gains doing anything to a 190 to improve performance. Sell it and buy a 195 if you want better performance

I think you misunderstood. What I am referring to is a fresh air exhaust system where the exhaust is routed and released below the water line to reduce sound and exhaust fumes at the back of the boat. These systems are not intended to improve performance. These are common in the wakeboat/surfboat world.

Your boat does not have a loud exhaust. Any excessive noise is from the engine/vibration from high rpms. Making the exhaust go under the water line wont quiet the noise heard in the cockpit. It will most likely have a negative impact on performance. And a 190 cant risk any power loss

I dont completely agree with that. I notice plenty of exhaust noise at the rear of the boat emanating from behind the swim platform area while underway. I have done extensive sound deadening throughout the entire boat and noise inside the boat is drastically reduced from what it was. The worst area now is directly at the back seats where the exhaust noise is apparent. Previously (pre-sound deadening) the vibration/resonance in the boat was the most noticeable source of noise.

Not the transom seats, mind you. I don't allow anyone to sit there while the engine is on. But even in the back seats the exhaust can be noticeable at surf speeds. And when you're surfing, especially on the port side.
 
That said, I don't want a performance hit either, since I'm pushing the 195 to the limit with ballast. And I don't want anything dragging in the water that impacts the surf wave negatively, either. But it seems basically no one has tested these things...

I agree completely. I spoke with Larry at FAE this morning. He is working on a new system this winter for the yamaha jet boats. He hopes to have something ready in ~3 months or so.

Agreed as well. General consensus in the v-drive or direct drive surf/wake boat world is that the FAE systems drastically cut down on noise, eliminate exhaust smell, and generally do not impact performance or the wake. However, I am curious to see if the same can be achieved for a jet boat.
 
Just remember 1 thing that people experience when the exhaust is too low the engine won't start this occurs when they are wake surfing and using ballast the low side has issues restarting due to it being further under the water therefore dealing with more back pressure on the exhaust and I suggested they get the boat moving forward using the higher side as that does not have an issue and then try to start it and that worked so it proves too much backpressure will cause issues when starting there are threads posted regarding this issue lower the exhaust the more pressure on the system

Good point, hopefully this will be factored into the design and tested to ensure no issues.
 
That's good to know. I have had a few rare times when the engine doesn't want to start. I read somewhere else that letting it idle briefly rather than coming off hard throttle and immediately killing the engine helps.

Usually I only stop the engine when changing riders and re-starting doesn't seem to be an issue, as I've come off hard throttle and turned around, then slowly approached the down rider. I think it has happened more frequently when I'm doing a WOT run to find a good spot to hang out, then I arrive and kill the throttle fairly quickly rather than idling at no-wake speed for a bit.

I'm fairly sure the exhaust is already below water when surfing as the port side of my swim platform is basically underwater when I'm fully ballasted.
