Does 6" really make a big difference? I like the sound reduction idea, I'm ok with the control panel and rudder. However, why in the heck would they increase the freeboard??? These dang boats blow around with the slightest bit of a breeze! Although maybe the rudder will help decrease the wind effects.

Already bought one, pick it up this Saturday. I feel like I got a really good deal and based on the released information so far. I'm really happy.
I think you got a great deal, and I don't see anything that would offset that. The panels will be nice, but most Yamaha electronics seem to be buggy, and I just have a feeling this panel may take a while to work out. Just a guess and my personal opinion based on all the people here that have radio issues...

My thinking is that the larger fin designs are likely be as effective if not more effective than the rudder. But the keel will likely add more straight line stability than any fins could due to its length.

A keel could be added to our older boats. If the keel makes a significant improvement then I hope that someone will scan the older hulls, simulate keel designs to find what works best and then bring an add on keel product to market.
Shallow water isn't really a problem for me, so an add on keel would be something that I would definitely be interested in, if it would improve straight line tracking at slow speeds.

The 6 inches would make the head much larger and the redesign of the hull may increase usable space quite a bit. I am hoping for much better seats, larger head and larger swim deck.

and a significant decrease in noise!

The "Quiet Cruise" noise reduction seem like the only improvement to me (if its for real).

The other stuff get higher billing in the press release, but its all just band-aids in my opinion. That rudder is clearly an add-on after-thought. And I love technology, but the new touch-panel-LCD screen looks cheesy to me. Looks like 5-year-old tech, not state-0f-the-art.

I'm not impressed with what I see so far...

I like the sound of the changes to the 24' models and it certainly sounds like a complete redesign with many upgrades. As with any new model, I am sure there will be some bugs to work out, but less noise, better steering, more room, electronic interface, etc. all sounds good to me. Now the real question is what will the price be.

When they did away with the 230 series and came out the 240 series the boat length only changed by 6 inches which seemed to go into the bow area. I will be interested in seeing what changes with the additional 6" on the 240's.

It sounds good because all we have so far is their marketing mumbo-jumbo which is solely intended to "sound" good. We still are waiting to see and touch the actual product and not the marketing hoo-ha.

I see nothing ground-breaking or earth-shattering. I don't see anything that I would call a "complete redesign"

Sorry if I sound pessimistic, but I've been following these Yamaha product releases for about 10 years and very little has changed. There were only a few years were something truely new came out. (new hull, new engines, single engine model). This year does not appear to be one of those years. (although, it is a bit more interesting than just new colors and decals)

I agree that we have to be careful about the marketing and of course we also have to see the boats in action. Saying they are quieter or that they handle better is very subjective. It sounds like a couple of forum members are on-site and will be able to give some solid reviews.

I don't think you are being pessimistic.....maybe I am being optimistic. What I am encouraged by is the Boattest teaser video implying that this is the year that may win over I/O enthusiasts and what appears to be an effort in solving the biggest complaints - excessive noise and poor low speed handling.

While there has been no mention in change of power plant, I do view the discussed changes to the 24' as significant from what we know right now. I also think that until you throw a price on it, you haven't done anything. Yamaha has the capability to build a Cobalt caliber boat at a certain price point. Part of what attracts most of us to the brand is the value component. Once we see the price point, we can determine if the boat is still the best bang for the buck. With recent price hikes, this seems to be less true than say 5 years ago.

We already have one earmarked for us. We will be shooting videos in the next two weeks and will be towing home a new 2015 SX240. I have seen some of the pictures of the new layout and steering system and we're excited to get our hands on one and begin developing new parts for this new hull.

Will, based on what you have seen, would you consider this a significant redesign/upgrade for the 24' models?

So for the forum members (especially dealers) actually attending, would you be so kind as to relay pricing and lead-time estimates once you have them in hand?

The Yamaha engineers claim to have found 12 points on/in the boat where they wer able to significantly reduce noise. I can't wait for this information to get to us older boat owners so we can try to replicate.

My understanding is that the 2015s will be in dealerships on the 24th.

Or better have Will or Yamaha offer a retrofit kit for older models.
