Rebuilt head only from SBT. Stock bottom end, including crank with the narrower gear. Replaced chain, guides and cam gears with newer parts for 5/4 link. Factory is definitely a fan of 'more is better' when it comes to sealant application. Yours certainly looks better sealed than mine was, and with better quality silicone. I still feel this is an area that should really be sealed with 4200 or similar though. Yamaha puts a lot of faith in silicone!- BBottoms

I've known about this leak for a long time, and kept putting off the fix assuming it would be a pain to do. Ended up being one of the easier things I've done on the boat, definitely should of tackled it sooner!- BBottoms

Another area to check for leaks is where the impeller shafts come through the hull to the intermediate bearing/coupler, which is protected by a short hose and thru hull fitting. Have you had a 1.8 timing chain failure, was it in warranty and how has Yamaha handled it?
Well, just lost my timing chain on my 2015 AR240. Actually the 2nd one for my boat, first was starboard engine at around 50 hours, before I bought it, and replaced under warranty. Bimini 2022
So far just looks like a lot of individual trips and some smaller groups spread throughout June and July. I'm going July 30 thru August 6. Just me and the crew on my boat right now. Went solo boat in 2020 both directions, so good doing it again if no one else going those same days. -

I'm planning a trip for July 30 - Aug 6, 2022. Little riskier on hurricane season but that's the only time all of our group could make it work. Already have two beachfront units at Bimini Cove reserved through AirBNB. We've got 3 couples going, no kids. -

VHF and antenna
Honestly I've never checked the coordinates on the VHF against my Chartplotter, but if it's like most GPS devices I can't imagine it would make a difference how it's mounted. It's possible the GPS satellite reception may be slightly less versus somewhere more 'open', but I doubt fiberglass has...- BBottoms

How do you carry extra gas safely?
I found 5 gal cans at Walmart that are more square in shape than most cans. They fit perfectly in the wet storage behind the seatbacks on the swim deck of my 2015 240. @msjones144 I've got several 8ft QC-8 (8 ft) Shakespeare antennas and would sell you one cheap.
