1st post / new to group - 2024 AR220

Both of my cousins that have the 210SX and 230SX have the cobra fins. The one with the 210 drove it 1 summer and then installed them, the one with the 230 had the dealer put them on before he even took delivery after his brothers experience. I'd be curious as to how the new "keel" system works and would most likely add something.
Thanks for the response

keel kelps a little but no where near what my steering does to upgrade the steering at ALL speeds

Thanks for the advice to everyone who replied. Appreciate it. After looking at multiple used AR240's and 242's and their condition vs price point, we decided to put a deposit today on a new 2024 AR220 in Powder blue. Will be adding a Garmin 5 or 7" GPS / Chartplotter and possibly 2 tower speakers before we take delivery. Then after we run the boat for a bit, will see if we need steering help and maybe Seadek or marine mat on the interior. Should take delivery somewhere in the next 3-4 weeks.

That’s a great question. I’d be lying to you if I threw out an rpm because I honestly can’t recall. Last time I had it out was Labor Day weekend and that was the end of the season for us with kids starting school back up and sports going on.

To the best of my memory it’s optimal cruising speed was around 26mph and I think the rpm’s were around 6,000.

Our AR220 does everything we need it do. It’s really the perfect size and has plenty of storage. Tubing, wakeboarding, cursing with friends etc. If you ask my wife she would say the boat is perfect. I’m a gear head at heart and love to modify anything with an engine so to me it’s only shortfall is it lacks top end. If the camshaft swap is successful I should be able to get it up to 260-275hp and that should satisfy me.
have you done the Mods you mentioned? I have the same model but 2024 (pretty much the same boat) and I'm looking to increase the HP a little. I'm in NM and elevation is my enemy right now. I'm going to be sending my impellers to Impros to re-pitch it. would be nice to know if you were successful on your mod plans.

To this point I have only done the ribbon deletes and Riva Racing hi-flow air filters. My boat will top out at 40mph at about 200ft above sea level.

I had been discussing doing a camshaft upgrade with another member on here. He had found a company called Brian Crower Camshafts that makes upgraded cams for the Yamaha YZF 998 SxS. The motor in these are a variant of the TR-1’s in our boats. They sell cams with a bit more lift and duration. The only road block is fueling since we don’t have an open loop O2 sensor to monitor and adjust fueling and no one offers an off the shelf tune for this application in our boats. Parts wise it’s not too expensive, approximately $500 per motor for a pair of cams, X2, plus gaskets and other accessories it’s about $1500 total. The issue is fueling. You can’t put an O2 sensor just anywhere in the exhaust due to the water that gets injected in and the exhaust manifolds have water jackets as well.

Last we talked about it he had had sone luck with finding an module to manipulate the fuel injector pulse width but we haven’t chatted about it lately.

It’s definitely still on my “want to do” list but being that we are in season right now my family and I have just been out enjoying ourselves on the boat. Come this winter I plan to dive back into this. I now have a large garage I built to store the boat in at home and will be able to tinker with it come this off season.
