Hi folks - thanks for this forum opportunity. I have a 'new to me' 2008 212x. Bought it from Georgia and just put it in the water at home in Ohio yesterday. When I took the drive with it prior to purchasing in February, I was told the speedometer wasn't working, so I paid a shop in Georgia to work on it. They replaced the paddlewheel speedo in the back of the hull, and supposedly tested it - was told that did the trick and the speed was registering at the panel. As you'd guess - yesterday there was zero speed registering AND my depth gauge (original factory) wasn't working properly. It's odd - when turning the battery on on both engines - the depth gauge fires up and reads the depth correctly. Then after a few seconds the readout changes to " --" and doesn't actively read the depth. So, I know it's functioning correctly at some level, but it won't stay active while boating.

I've read in a couple of places that his year/model has had issues with some speedometer gauge / depth gauge combined issues - that they're somehow interconnected. Has anybody had similar issues? I can confirm that the speedo wheel is not the problem - it was running and moving freely prior to unloading into the water. Thank you!

You need to shim that Speedo wheel down a bit more at the far corner (tilt) at the wheel so it bites in to the water at speed.

And I just remembered I replaced my depth gauge unit for another that reads thru the hull. I believe it was made by Faria.

The depth sounder is notorious for inaccurate or no reading. The speedometer transducer magnets in the paddle wheel fail and will not send a signal. I replaced the original speedometer and paddle wheel on our 07 with a GPS speedometer. The replacement paddlewheel I ordered did not work with a brand new speedometer and I returned it.
