How do you think youll wire it all up....I saw 2 amps and 20 speakers, lol

Just curious how you plan to divy up the power since you went with M series stuff. Those speakers can take well over 75rms.

Will you mount both subs on the same side?

Love the build so far - but there is not enough power. I would give 150 to each of the speakers, and 250 to each sub.

Exactly @adrianp89 those speakers are absolute monsters and thirst for power.

I'm just wondering how you will wire up the towers and M770s efficiently with that power, I'm sure it will sound nice and loud, but you got the some of the best speakers so another amp down the road isn't a bad idea so you can really hear their potential, unless you already have one you can use to power the subs or something. Perhaps a 1000/5 would be solid, but there are a bunch of ways to skin a cat so to speak.

Prior to adding my 2nd 800/8 I was using a single 800/8 to power 8 M770s and it was def loud and clear. I never played it super loud although I'm sure I could have. I also worked with JL tech support on my system design, and he said they would be ok at 75rms bc their efficient but at the 150-200, your gonna hear them scream. That sentiment was also confirmed by Odin @Earmark Marine who I bought the M770s and 2nd 800/8 from.

When I added the 2nd 800/8 those M770s getting 200rms were insane (just how I like it) and I was getting request to turn it down which is exactly what I wanted, lol

Chances are I am keeping the polk 500's for the subs, but may just add a 100/1 JL M for the subs. Haven't decided yet lol

I decided I'm going with 2 800/8's and a 1000/1 for the subs. My concern now is going to be enough power to supply the amplifiers. what batteries are you running?

You will need two group 31 deep cycle or AGM in one bank or combined as one bank when playing loud at a minimum. I prefer the agm. With that much power volatge drop will be an issue at high volumes and impact total volume output. It will also impact battery life because the draw will be far in excess of the C rating at high volumes. You may even want to consider a high c rate high amp hour lifepo4 from limitless. Just vailidate that will work with stators and not not damage the lifepo4 or bms assuming they build one in. The big downside to lifepo4 is the cost.

@DJMattyT Im running two group 29 batteries with a shore charger tied in. I've had them the last 2 years with no problems, and will be swapping them out this year along with a more robust charger to handle the demand, I noticed it would take forever to top off the batteries after a long day on the water.

One ques on the sub amp, I think I read your running 2 IB10s? If so I think those take 250rms, so you would be throwing them extra power they really wouldn't be able to efficiently use. What led you to pick this amp for the subs?

Not that you asked, BUT since your putting in some great speakers you might consider swapping the 1000/1 for the subs inlieu of a 1000/5. My thinking is using the 1000/1 for only two subs (unless Im missing something?) might be overkill at the expense of the other M series speakers you have. Using a 1000/5 would let you give the two subs 400-600 watts, plus supply 4 extra channels for the remaining speakers not being powered by the 2 800/8s.

There's a bunch of ways to approach it, and either way it will sound good.

@Mainah I agree the bigger the better for the batteries, but somehow I've managed to avoid the dreaded low batt signal the last 2 years using the group 29s.

Im using some regular Pep Boys Marine deep cycle batteries, nothing fancy and got them for a lovely price so although I don't mind spending the money, I couldn't pass up a deal on these batteries. (Used these in my previous boat as well, had Interstates before that which were amazing) As mentioned after 2 years I will be swapping them out them season for new fresh ones and an upgraded charger to speed up the recharge time.

Somehow these JL amps don't kill the drain on the batteries so far, and I def play my music to be heard!

The JL M10’s are crazy underrated. I threw 400 to it in my last boat and it sounded awesome. I really almost did just a 600/1 for the subs but my dealer said I could def throw 1000 at the 2 of them and they’d be fine. We’ll see I’m tbd if I do a 600 or 1000

I def agree that JL is built tough, and often underrated, just saying putting power in excess of what they need to sound great, vs putting that power to the M series speakers would be a better use of the money your paying for the ability to channel the most power efficiently.

You'd be sending extra power to the Subs and in exchange two pair of the M770s will be (under)powered differently depending on the setup, so I was just saying you could use a diff amp to smooth it out (same 1000 watts), if not your gonna under power something in order to over power something else, vs just giving them all the right power that gets it pounding. If you have diff speakers in the same zones with diff power and you play it loud I would imagine it would play differently, but cant say it would be audible?

I have the same speakers and know your paying good money for them, feed them the power they want, those IB subs can only play so much based on their design of being free-air. I have the same 1000/1 amp pushing my 2 JL 12w3s and even that was kinda overkill based on what I was told in terms of what they needed to perform properly, the ONLY reason I went with that amp is in case I decided to add more subs in the future and even, which I dont need now.

If you try the 1000/5 you would then be able to give the subs 600 rms, and the M770s both towers and in-boats all get 200 rms, vs two pair getting 75 rms and one pair getting 200rms...so you would still have the same total power but more efficiently distributed, in my opinion at least.

And without sounding like a critic, the fact that your dealer wants to throw more than enough power to your subs, but less than ideal power to those M770s is a head scratcher, if they were MX770s I get it, but those M series speakers are meant to be fed, and if you were gonna throw a 600/1 on it then then 1000/5 makes even more sense as it can pump out 600rms @ 2 ohms.

I digress, lol

Hows the painting coming along, any progress on the install?

Hey guys, just wanted a fun thread to post the process of my new sound system going in my new 242X
So far I bought
6 JL M770’s for the interior
2 JL M10ib’5 Subs
4 JL M770 tower speakers
2 extra tweeters
2 JL M800/8 Amps
I’m back and forth between doing a fusion stereo system or keeping the stock Polk but adding a Wetsounds EQ rack.
Well anyway here’s some pics so far.
So yeah I added 2 more speakers 2 more amps and a Fusion stereo system lol
