Where you have yours is my ideal spot. But I can’t see a 6.5” speaker fitting in that location. I thought the 212’s had 6.5” speakers there but maybe they have 5.5” speakers.I preferred mine where you originally thought to put them. Like @Drift Away just have the cushion cut/restitched. Sure mines a 240 but it's the same concept. I wouldn't want a hole or an expensive speaker that close to the water all the time

What hard to tell in the pic, but the fiberglass already has an indent. I have the right edge of the template up against the indent.Looking at this pic, couldn't you just place the speaker more to the right?
Everything is working against me putting 6.5” speakers in the upper location.Yup never mind thought that was just a glare.
This is where I am going to put mine. Ran the wires today.I think I go the @Jebinok route and install the speakers on the lower platform area.

5.25” would be ideal in my sitauation. On the 21’s, the space in that area is very limited.I'm in the same boat...I'm currently getting my cushions cut down to fit the 6.5s (soon to be 7.7s)...for some reason all the upholstery shops near the lakes I boat are super busy and more than the $100 some others have spent.
I don't like the idea of good speakers being exposed to water so often, mostly the backwash that's unavoidable.
To bad JL don't make 5.25s
Great pictures. But it seems you guys with 24’s just have a bit more room.@jeff_s I still think you might be able to go into the first location, as @ThatJeepGuy suggested. Here are some pics of my install, I got the DB651s (6.5") to fit REAL tight but it worked very well - I don't have measurements but you can approximate from proportions to the metal brackets etc.

Tower speaker justification: with the speakers mounted to the tower they won't be deafening anyone lounging on the swim platform. You won't have to cut a giant whole in the fiberglass. No altering of the seat cushion. Brings the sound up and out of the boat so you can hear the music farther away. Since you already have the speakers all you need is a couple of speaker cans.
At $115 for the pair was worth it to me
