Anchor Locker Fix Idea

Is that Gaffers tape? looks like you repair will come out great.

Is that Gaffers tape?

Yep. I go through about 3 rolls a month with our business. I love the stuff. I couldn't find my painters tape, which typically means that my 9yo used it for a craft.

Nice. I use a bit of painters tape for my 3d printer, but I also need to hide the rolls or they get turned into crafts.

Here is my fix very easy and works. 5200 around $hitty hull work and small plug bought at WalMart.

Did someone cut that hole in with a sawz all??? Please tell me that it did not come from the factory that way....

Looks more like they lost the drill bit and decided a 44 magnum was close enough.

After spending a few hours on the river yesterday. Anchor locker stayed nice and dry. I even hit a few wakes intentionally to try to get water in it.

Finally had enough of the anchor locker filling with water especially with people in the bow...
Here is my fix thanks to a few postings on this site so I thought I would share...it went better than I thought especially drilling into fiberglass. The plug just pushed out..no sealant or anything. Luckily no gap in the hull for intrusion. I had to grind down the inside to smooth it out, then used 3M 5000 Marine sealant on both sides and put the plug back in. I ordered the 1/2" rubber plug so it would prevent water from entering, but we were in pretty big waves the other day and the locker filled with some water from the top, so now it was filling and not draining...ugh. So I used @robert843's idea of the clam shell. Used #8 Stainless screws with a 1/8" drill bit and sealed with 3M. We'll see if it prevents water from coming in..disappointed in Yamaha on this one...

I just about spit out my bourbon when I read that.

Reviving an older thread but looks like Yamaha has done nothing but continue the poor workmanship. This is from my 2020 242SE anchor locker.
I have a feeling that the location they choose to drill the hole is arbitrary and the inserts are not long enough for some of the hull locations. Or, if the come in different sizes the person on the assembly line is not paying attention to which insert they, er, insert. In the pictures below the red arrow points to the end of the insert. Notice it does not come all the way into the anchor locker.

@Drexx3 so did you do anything to fix it? any suggestions Of what might have worked for you, pictures of the solution and reported outcome?

I did and will take some pics next time I’m on the boat. I basically copied what others have done and used 5200 to first seal around the flange on the outside, then shoved a straw throug the hole and essentially plastered the anchor locker side of the hole with 5200 as well making sure to get it in every crack & crevice. A few days later the straw pulled right out leaving enough of a hole to function as intended.
Seemed to do the trick
