Anyone else fleeing their state?

@Dixie Highway - oh heck no. We're not going to bring that taint stank of Kali garbage out to Bama. I'm going to be in the 0.01 percentile of Am Asians in Mobile, but I love me some overalls and I definitely love me some shorts and flip flops for the boat. We're going there because we want to LIVE our lives, not have some idiot tell us how we should be or what we should believe in!

Boats, guns and airplanes. My trifecta of happiness in an area that supports all 3!

We’ve been here a month and loving it.

I'll be retiring to Alabama due to them not taxing government pensions. Indiana keeps raising taxes to pay for silly sports stadiums and such. Ready to leave this place. Especially since Indy has a homicide rate that rivals Chicago.
Where are you planning to move to in Bama?

I promise guys that in my own situation I can guarantee I will not try to be “Illinois-fying“ where I move, in fact I am certain that I will only make Alabama more “tide” if you catch my drift. One thing that’s important to remember, when you have an state with a huge city in it that metro area controls what happens in the rest of the state by sheer numbers alone. For example Chicagoland holds 66% of the population in the state. There are large swaths of us in the outlying areas that do not agree, we are just outnumbered. I’d bet willing to be I’m more Alabama than a lot of Alabamans Lol.

Not really, we have Memphis and Nashville here in TN and the rest of the state rules those 2 cesspools.

Well, we have decided to pull the trigger. Getting our ducks in line and putting the house on the market, heading to "LA" lower Alabama. We are going to be about 20 minutes from our beloved Gulf of Mexico. Some of you know I have recently sold my 210 FSH, this was part of the process. I really didn't want to, but the market is right and it will be one less thing to move, getting the loan off my credit will help with financing a new home (rates are crazy low right now, we were quoted 2.5% for a 30 year). This will be a long process as we are looking to build a new house there, but the wheels have started turning. Once we are settled in there I'll be looking for another boat. Can't say for sure it will be a Yamaha as I have big ambitions about learning to fish in blue water, more than likely though it'll have tuning forks somewhere on it lol. Bottom line though, we just don't see much of a future here in the People's Republic of IL. Taxes keep going up, crime is increasing, frankly the feeling I get is that the state doesn't want me here. Maybe I'm too middle class, they want rich donors and wards. Anyways, I'll be off to the land of sub $1000/yr property taxes by the end of 2020, wish me luck!
thats a lot of personal info shared with the world wide web!

Ugh. I’m another NJ hold out. I’d leave tomorrow if not for my wife’s family. I’d head straight for Texas. Huge tech hub in Austin and it’s only gonna explode with Tesla, apple etc building facilities.
Gotta go where the $$ is.
Don't know if you moved yet. I would stay the hell outta Texas. I have lived here since 1980. The economic climate is great......it just sucks to be a property owner. Property taxes and insurance are just outrageous. There is a saying here, "You never really own your home, you just lease it from the state". Everyone goes on about no state income tax. True, but the property owners foot the bill for everything. When I retire in about 7-10 years, I'm really considering moving to Oklahoma. Having a home on an acre or 2 or 5 is great until you retire. It then sucks all your savings just to to hold on to what you have.

Agreed! Our friends who flee'd to Texas has said, it's becoming a version of Cali. Boise, Idaho? Same. Florida - pretty awesome, but New Yorkers, Illinoisers, Californias doing similar things there as they do in Texas. Bringing the worst of their home states and saying they want that where they have moved to.

We are now officially becoming Cali exiles. COVID proved, you could be in Timbuktu and still make a living, if you have access to high speed technology.

Now, we are going to be high speed boating around the MULTITUDE of waterways, rivers, bayous and the beautiful Gulf Coast!

Hey Okie!
How does that Oceansouth Bimini extension work for ya? Send pics if you got em. The AR Top is so small compared to what I had on the Tahoe.
TKS and ya...….Shhhh…….

Yes , its a add for sure. I sold my boat this year. We sat a lot in cove 1 at Arcadia , it was well worth the purchase. I would upsized a little, especially a 24 ft.
Seriously; How have I never thought of this until now.......Floating Portable Canopy | JetBoaters.net - The World's Largest Jet Boat Forum!

The problem is that as the increasing number of a certain breed and political ilk keep reproducing and continuously moving out there to make their bit in the ever socialist embracing country music scene. Those sheer numbers alone will eventually start to turn the tide.

It's happening in Idaho and it's definitely happening in Texas. Tennessee is one of the truly hidden gems of this Union and I hope the heart and soul of it fights to stay that way.

Just retired from the U.S. Air Force so really been traveling for the past 20 yrs. Last assignment was in NJ and there was no way in hell I was going to retire there. Lol I'm now in N. TX where I landed a job...and loving it! Folks are down in Daytona Beach area. Any N. Texans here?

Yup - I live in Mountain Springs 10 mi. S of Gainesville. On Ray Roberts nearly every weekend. Pretty laid back most weekends but getting more crowded every year. I stay off of Lewisville. Great party lake but I call it the lake of death. Waaaay too busy for me. Texoma is great too. The water clarity is good and a great lake to find a sandy beach. You can find the party crowd, the family crowd or just find a beach with a few folks on it.
Try not to choke when you pay your property taxes.

Everything you're mentioning is exactly what my friends told me. I have two kids, so I'm over the party scene. I love driving around Ray Roberts...definitely my pick. Property taxes...ooh yeah I know about that! Hope to see ya on the lake!

Best of luck to you! We left IL 2 1/2 years ago, and have not looked back. Yes we miss our friends, but we do not miss the state at all! We’ve only made it as far south as the Ohio River, but in 4 years or so, will be moving to Tennessee (Low property taxes, and no personal income tax).

Just an update on this, loving it so far. We are about 2 months in our new home and pretty well settled in. Still waiting for some furniture we ordered in NOV, but that's a Covid thing they tell us. Should be here soon. On the plus side it's 70 degrees and sunny right now, loving life! Shopping for a new boat since I sold the 210 before moving, looking at a 22-26' outboard powered CC.
