Bimini July 2nd-8th 2023

I reviewed the fuel consumption charts and attached them here. The closest boat in the data to ours is a 2012 SX210. At 36mph is shows we should get 150 miles per tank. Can anyone confirm that I am understanding this correctly?

Yep - these are the charts linked in the OP, I think you're right based on the most comparable dataset to your boat. Based on the max range you're looking at 200 miles in ideal conditions? Likely crossing conditions put you at closer to a little over 100 miles which should be fine without filling up. For reference that 2012 has a slightly more efficient mileage than my 08 SX230 and we made it across with about half a tank in rough conditions.

Always take extra gas. There’s a chance that either island doesn’t have any for a while when you get there.

100%. Last trip we took our 2 Jerry cans and set em on the balcony after the crossing and strapped em back on on the way back - super easy and out of the way. If I recall, Cove ran out halfway during our trip, right? Luckily we didn’t need to fill up till the day before we left and that’s when they had gotten more in. I wonder if resorts world has a bigger reservoir - I imagine they’d have to.

The South Island didn’t have gas for a couple days after we got there. As soon as they got gas the north island ran out. I put my cans up on the balcony also and took them home full. I’d rather have it and not need it opposed to needing it and not having it.

I saw on a couple Air BnB posts and on an email that the Marina at Bimini Cove is under construction, they cannot guarantee a slip? Anyone have any info? Was this an issue last year?

I can't speak to their current condition as we're staying at RW, but I feel like they're always under construction for some reason or another... The docks seemed to be in good shape (if not recently worked on) when we went in '21, but who knows what's happened since then. Maybe shoot them an email specifically asking them that you want to book a slip, will they have availability? I'd consider doing that and maybe having a backup option depending on the answer.

So, at Resort World, do we have reserve a slip?

Yes, they have a couple marinas, Fishermans Village being the one most likely to be catered to our size boats. Either book directly through them or some AirBnB hosts have their own slips available there as well - for a much better rate than booking through FV directly. With holiday rates and minimum sizing you're looking at like $1500 for the trip... Alternatively, I spoke to a host and he quoted me $2299 for a 2BR condo plus slip. Another alternative that would be even more affordable is if you find someone with a 60' slip that would allow you to dock 2 boats and split the cost. That's what @Jahall812 and I will be doing and I think it'll work swimmingly.

Ok, I found an AirBnB that has a boat slip for $50 a night. Looks like it is a small apartment with four units. They have one, two and three bedroom units available for July 2 through July 8; incase anyone else is looking for a place to stay.

Awesome, is it in RW with a dock at FV or a separate location with its own dock?

That is what I meant! I'm going with you.

I’m sure they’d work fine assuming they don’t get punctured, but sweet Moses, $200 for 5gal?! I’m sure they’d store fine but my biggest worry would be how unwieldy they’d be if you have to use them in rough seas. They may be able to saddle over the gun whale but not sure about pouring. Our plan with Jerry cans would be to rest them on the seat and use a super siphon so we don’t have to hang over the boat to try and refuel. If you go that route just make sure you have a plan for the logistics of how they’d be unpacked and used in rolling seas.

That awesome! Welcome to the group!! I figured that is what you meant I was just messing with you!

Shew! That price is steep for 5 gallons. Hopefully, they wouldn't only be used for this trip. I have a 14gal tank I am bringing. I bought it last year when gas prices spiked.

Where do you store it during transit?

This is my first crossing so I've never transported it on the boat. I'll have to experiment and see where it fits securely. My first option will be on the swim platform as long as it doesn't interfere with being able to access the clean out ports.

Awesome, just added you to the list - if you want to let us know how many you're planning on crossing with I can add it too.
Definitely 2 adults (maybe a 3rd not sure yet)

So we need to break the proverbial ice, if we are to risk life and limb together! Maybe a FB group?
