Not sure if the plot thickens,
I replaced the wet tube today and found it to be torn on the inside and the outside of the tube. Put a rubber glove on each end and filled it up. It does leak but more like steady drips. How could the inside and outside be torn?
Next, I thought id take a look at the thermostats. They both had build up but nothing that really concerned me to bad. What I did find concerning was on the suspect engine thermostat a good size chunk of the thermostat gasket was guess torn off and wedged between the thermostat housing and the part that seals. So it was essentially leaving the thermostat slightly open. I don’t know it it was open enough to cause issues but it was cracked open. Also the fact that the gasket was stuck there makes me think either it just happened or it happened a while ago and the thermostat was stuck closed.
It seems there are to many little things stacking up to give me any piece of mind.
I’ve found thermostats from $30 to $140. Any recommendations? I’d prefer OE but you you guys might know of a better option.
I hooked up the hose and a heavy solution of salt away and ran each engine minus the thermostat for 1 min each. I disconnected the thermostat drain hose and put the hose in a bucket. The goal was to see if and sediment would be flushed out. Sure enough each engine had a little junk come out. They both had roughly the same amount. Maybe if you laid it out flat, lithe amount of sediment would be about the dimensions of a dime.
I don’t know if any of this means anything but the wet pipe really confuses me.
