today we sucked up a little something on the river...when I cleaned out the port the boat was bouncing around a little and it seems like i locked the clean out port even though it wasn't all the way in...but it is jammed...I CAN NOT OPEN IT
has anyone experienced this? if so...how do I get it out, it looks like the black plastic latch is rotated to the lock position while the main housing is in the unlock position

Help!

Sounds to me like your plastic housing rotated. Try to hold it still while moving the latch - happens very often to me

@Cobra Jet Steering LLC, you are an expert on these plugs. Any ideas?

@LeeFlan7 if you tag [USERGROUP=9]@HELP[/USERGROUP] you will get a faster response. This seems like a suitable emergency to me.

I wish I could help but my expertise is with the model year 2000 to 2016 push button plugs ONLY
I have no information that would be of any help other that to take it to the dealer and have them take care of it under warranty. And learn the reverse move so you don't need to pull the plugs so often. seriously!

@LeeFlan7, do you have the new twist lock plugs?

Yeah these new plugs are a pain you have to make sure they are in the unlocked position before you try and put it in. I'm surprised you got it in at all of its like that. When you get back to the plug push down on it with all your force and slowly try and turn it out I have figured out it is more about downward pressure then turning pressure or even possibly get a pole or a stick and have someone lean down on the plug with their weight while you turn it with that much weight pushing down on it the plug should come out.

Thanks for the help...update, managed to get it out...
I lubed the heck out of it and simply applied as much force as I could...after about 5 rounds of that it "popped".

I did notice however that the one plug had a piece of green plastic, what I can only describe as packing...i removed that and the fit seems much better...easy in out, and yes...these are the new locking plugs.

I truly appreciate the help...thanks again!

I apologize @LeeFlan7 - I didnt see that you had a 2017. I thought you were talking about the lid over the plugs. My lid stick on me quite often, thought you were experiencing the same problem.

Glad you were able to get your problem fixed.

Keep us posted if you experience any new issues with your plugs. These are new for 2017 and there is not a lot of in field data on their use and the quirks that always come with new things.

Definitely keep us posted on these new plugs...I'll be curious to know "best practices" with them as I'll be getting some of them soon...

The green thing? Oh, that doesn't look right.

But I notice you have a screw loose. Perhaps that is the issue?

Loose screws on these boats are common. I have to break out a screwdriver just about every outing. :(

Not only the loose screw but looks like some wear is already developing on the rubber seal. Perhaps that explains why these can be hard to twist to lock and unlock?

So far I'm not too impressed with the new plugs. While they did address the issue with the previous mechanical design plugs, it seems they've introduced an almost equally bad issue by making them difficult to remove. Not a good thing when out on the water and sucked something up.

Screw is no longer loose....
In terms of wear on the rubber, thats probably just the fact that I put so much lube on the damn thing to move it that its literally dripping in the stuff!

Oh I thought that was water :D

It might be worth a test though now that you mention it. you could lube it all up making it shiny and then insert it to see if there are any uneven wear areas. IMO these things shouldn't be designed in such a way that they are requiring owners to lube them just to make it easier or even possible to install.

So far my '17 plug has been easy to install and remove. I silicone it and/or marine grease it after each trip out. My only complaint thus far is the water getting past it, which I posted in another forum on the FSH. I called Yamaha but they said I have to got through my dealer to get information from the Techs. Why do they make it so hard to get technical help or questions answered?

@Grover70 how much water is sitting on top of your cleanout plug? Some water is normal.
