Fixed the rotating key switch issue. 2007 - 2009 SX230, AR230, 232 Limited

@tdonoughue, what about these square holes. Are they too large?

No, those holes are perfect (square part and round part). Fit like a glove. Just too far apart by a little.

@tdonoughue, does this look like what you need?

The section that comes through the dash is 74x46.6 mm and the round holes are spaced 36 mm center to center.

Very close. Two things:
1) I think 36mm will work. If my math is right, the holes are 36.6mm on center, but given how sloppy the switches are in the holes, I can't imagine 36 would not work.
2) So the part that was not easy for me to measure was the hole in the glass (it basically looks freehanded by someone). At max it is 9mm thick. So it might make sense to remove material here:

Basically remove a U so that it is cut very close on the cylinders on 3 sides. In fact, maybe rather than the 90 deg angles I show in the first view, if those were rounded like the cylinders and just left a couple mm lip... (just thought of that after I finished drawing). Either way, that will help make sure it clears the glass (while leaving the full depth to contact the face plate). Make sense?

(btw, this is very cool--love AutoCAD...--thank you!)

@tdonoughue, from your measurements I believe that the opening through the fiberglass is 75mm wide. The narrower section is 74mm wide for 10mm of depth before expanding to the full width. The width of the back of this version is 83.10 versus ~90mm on the 230 version.

@Betik measured 35.24mm center to center on the key switches. I split the difference. My guess is that the hole in the dash plate has sufficient gap to explain the difference.

I have sent the model to Betik and hope that he will tell us if it fits.

@tdonoughue, you may be able to see the dimensions better here.

This may be a better perspective.

Oh, yes. Nice. Yep, bet that will do it. We will see what Betik says.

How long does that take to print?

Less than an hour and a half for me including printer warm up and auto leveling.

I believe it will take a little longer for @Betik.

Wow! Nice printer!

Where can I get the stl for the original design? I have an 07 AR230 and the slipping nut is driving me crazy. I was going to fire up Fusion360 but you've already done it!

@mckev, you will want two of the washers and one the lockers.

Hi Bruce. Are you selling these by chance? I have 2007 sx230 and the slipping ignition is getting very annoying. Lol. No access to a 3D printer however. Feel free to PM me if that makes more sense.

Thanks in advance!

I would be happy to. I have a key locker on my desk. Should be able to print a pair of the washers early next week. Currently I am printing hundreds of individual art supply boxes for the wife's classroom.

Would you prefer black, blue or white for the washers they will be somewhat visible behind the plastic nuts that secure the key switches.

I will check the shipping cost and get back to you.

That would be amazing. Black preferred if I have a choice. Otherwise whatever you have easily /readily available. No huge rush... Obviously keeping the misses happy and her classroom ready to go takes priority!

Hey Bruce, I would love to purchase this from you for my '13 SX 240. I have had this same issue with one of key switches spinning since I bought it. Not in a rush but would love to get it solved once and for all.

@Betik and I experimented with his same model 240 and found that the opening cut through the dash was highly variable. I arrived at this design which I believe should fit all 240s of your generation.

Happy to ship it to you for $20. If it does not fit send me pictures of the issue and we will find a solution. I will send send a message with my PayPal account.

This is amazing for my AR230. Game changer, no longer have to fidget with the rotation and can quickly restart the engines. Printed in black ABS and fit perfectly.

I did have to modify my fiberglass slightly as it was cut very close to the ignition bodies.

Are the 240 stl files available to download ?

Printing in PETG it needs to be printed with the small end down with supports. You might be able to print it big side down in PLA. I prefer PETG for longevity and heat resistance.

You do not need washers for the 240.

If you have trouble printing it I am printing and shipping them for $20.
