I have a 2014 242 LS that blows the accessory fuse often. Usually happens with the docking lights running for a couple minutes. Any ideas why? Also is anyone aware of any software that read engine codes or is it only available from a dealer? I hope I don't have to take my boat 100 miles just to get it read. Check engine light came on port side and engine will not rev. Starts right up but will not go. Really frustrated.

Sounds like there is kind of electrical fault with the lights.. List your location in your profile and someone near you may have the software to read the codes..

Is it an accessory fuse that you have to replace or a circuit breaker that you reset? Are the docking lights factory installed or after market?

It is a 20 amp fuse. Everything is stock. Its very easy to replace but an aggravation for sure.

you must have A wire rubbed somewhere and grounding onto something. I would start by seeing how the lights come out and then inspect them... other than that you will have to chase the wires and try to see where the ground id.. Someone could have ran a screw into one or something. Or just run a jumper wire from the lights to a fuse and turn them on and see what happens. If they still pop the fuse then something in the light itself may be grounding.

I will do that for sure. Thank you for your input. I appreciate the help. I will post the results of the inspection.

Since factory lighting I would say the lights have the correct wire size and fused for the amperage. I agree about checking the wire insulation for rub spots. You don't have a dead short because the fuse would blow instantly. See if you have moisture inside the light fixture itself causing current to flow to ground and heating the fuse element until it melts. Do you have a meter to check the amp draw of the lights?

I didnt think about the water in the light.

the software to read the engines is called YDS - Yamaha diagnostic software, you can buy it on ebay,

How long have you owned the boat?

what was the circumstances surrounding the engine light coming on? where you cruising, run over something, running on hose out of the water?

this is always fun..... I had to trouble shoot my trailer lights last week
One side of lights went out. when I went to unplug the trailer the wire was hot so I knew I had a short
It didn't draw enough to pop my truck fuse
like @Joatmon said start with the light bulbs

Good suggestions to get you started on the acessory fuse. As for the eninge not reving I would check unit that the throttle cable goes to on the port side engine bay. There is a flat 6 pin plug there that would cause exactly what you are describing if unpluged or if the unit itself was faulty. There is a worst case and that is the ecm is no longer sending 5v ref to that unit but lets hope that is not it. If it is fully plugged in trying using the cruise button to bump the rpms up.

Does our yamaha 242/240 take ATM or ATC fuses? Looking to buy spares and wasn't sure.
Thanks
