I'm thinking about getting a touring bike for me and the Mrs. Something to take on long weekend trips around TX, OK, AR area. My Dad has been a Goldwing rider forever. I have owned sport bikes and currently have a custom chopper. That being said, I know nothing about Harleys. I recently visited a large reseller of Harley and I seemed overwhelmed by all of the same looking bike, but, they all had different letters and the price ranged from $10,000 - $35,000. My price point is around $15,000 +/- a few thousand.

Does anyone on here ride the big touring bikes ?
What can you say about the difference between Harley and Honda? And, I mean the subtle things. I already understand that Harley will have more of a rougher feel due to the V-twin.
What type of Harley is the best for touring?

I have a street glide and a ultra love them both the street glide is basically a stripped down version of the ultra

My Dad also had Honda Goldwings growing up. I have friends that own Honda Goldwings and Harleys. They both love their own bikes. I can tell you Honda's newest Goldwing is bad to the bone! My Harley buddy is about to switch and get one. But I currently own a Honda VTX, so I can't tell you anything from personal experience.

I have owned/ridden just about everything out there and currently own an Indian Chief (Gilroy) and a Harley Road King. Don't forget about Indians. They are great bikes and a in my opinion ride smoother than Harley. If you are a bit bigger, they tend to be less cramped as well.

You may want to consider doing a rental on a few bikes. I have a membership with Eagle Rider which has locations all over the country (and beyond). They are a great company and depending on the location will have multiple models of Harley, Indian, and Gold Wing to chose from. This is a great way to ride multiple brands/models to see what fits you and the Mrs. best. Your a rider, so I am sure you understand how big of a difference subtle differences can make.
