Left the boat just fine week ago in the slip just started up and im getting high temp warning stbd. I believe i only saw one cooling water outlet spilling. Boat was fine for a full day when i docked it last.

Is the boat in the water or on a lift?

have you had the opportunity to check the cleanout ports? Feel inside the impeller for any debris.

With engine off, also try to put the throttle in FWD to open the gate and see if there is any thing blocking the cooling passage strainer.

Can i run the of dock water through engine while in water? Where is the intake for normal cooling water operation?

Where is this strainer? Cleanoit ports are clear.

If i do figure this out do i need to reset something to stop the alarm?

So if i have a clogged intake strainer, and boat is in the water, only access is in the water?

You should be able to reach in from the swim deck. It is about 1 foot inside the jet pump on the port side. Put control cable in forward. That will expose the jet opening. With a rag tied to a stick or whatever, you should be able to rub any buildup off the strainer/screen.

When I have had an alarm, switching the battery off for a few mins has allowed it to clear/reset.
I believe others have mentioned starting and stopping the motor 3-5 times.

As for the strainer, you can check the part that is exposed in the pump with your hand, when the bucket is up (fwd throttle). Chances are if there was something on the outside of the strainer, it would have washed away once you shut the motor off.

So if you have checked and nothing is impeding the impeller, I would reset the alarm, start up and drive at 4k or so RPMs and look to see if you now have a visual of the water exiting the “pisser”. If no water, shut it down. If you have a visual, it was probably a blockage that you have since cleared. This is how I would approach it, others may have different ideas.

It sounds to me like you have something in the impeller. I know you said it was clear, but you may not be able to see it. I would suggest trying to throw it in reverse and try to spit out whatever may be stuck in there. This happened to me just last week. I caught it early though so didn’t get an alarm.

Got my hand in and around the jet as much as physically possible nothing to feel but metal.

definitely no water exiting the pisser.

I connected shore water as if doing out of water maintenance and it flowed out the pisser and alarm stopped.

when i shut off hose the pisser stopped - port engine kept on pissing.

gonna take it out slow on one then start stbd and get some rpms fwd/back and kill it and limp back if I can’t clear it.

If you’re not getting flow out the pisser with lake water but you are with the hose then you most likely have a blockage from the strainer to the Y fitting or something impeding flow. You may need to remove the strainer cover on the outside of the pump to see if something made it past the strainer holes (sediment, fishing line, plastic etc). It doesn’t take much.

So what was the issue?

I don't have any official diagnosis but the situation was bad. Hot sunny day here and the family was locked in to hours and hours of kids sports. 7am until 4 pm. 95 degrees clear skies. No problem of course but we were looking forward to go out boating, experiment with our first wake surf board, and then dinner at the marina or another dock and dine.

The hot engine was so random and nuts. Got kids and wife on the boat after all the kid sports so pumped to get the breeze in my face and engines revving... totally fudged right off my slip and on the phone with you all.

Bottom line it was clear to me the intake had something blocking it...and getting out there as all explained above cleared it up and when I saw two pissers flowing you couldn't smack the smile off my face.

Better yet - My daughter knocks the socks off her first attempts at wake surf board getting up right away and now addicted and proud.

Thank you all again.

What was blocking the intake?

No clue - I couldn't detect anything with my hands feeling around. Once I saw two pisses I was pumped. Had some bummed kids and wife on board. We had a new wake surf board (first) we were about to try out.

Thanks to the help of everyone here, we got out and my oldest daughter got up and experienced the thrill of surfing for the first time.

Awesome.
