Really, two of the plastic nuts that hold and allow you to adjust the hatch switches broke causing the switches to free float. Does anybody know the size, metric or standard, thread and possibly a source? The Yamaha parts sites only sell the entire switches nuts and all. I could even go with a metal nut if I knew the size & thread.

i'd bet McMaster carr would have it if you could figure out the size,

Could you pull one off the other switch or is it only one per switch and you broke both?

I can try to pull one of mine to measure but it may take until tomorrow night, guessing I would take it down to ACE hardware to see if I could match it up??

Thanks @Scottintexas. There are 2 nuts per switch. One above the cleanout tray & one below to allow for adjustment of the switch. The problem is I'm not sure of the size or thread. I did take off a good nut to try to match it up. It would be more difficult trying to order some without the info.

i'm sorry for being capt. obvious here but couldn't you just disconnect the switch and take it to the hardware store to have them match it up

Whew...!
I was worried you may be needing medical attention.
You'll get your nuts in order.

It's one of the few switches hard wired in. There is no modular connector that I can see.

Remove the lower nut for a reference also use a pitch gauge on the switch threads and find the thread size I bet you could make your own from a p v c cap or similar material if you drill and tap it.

Thanks @Cobra Jet Steering LLC. I made the rounds today of several marine & hardware places. I did have a good nut with me to compare but no luck. It did fit fine on a 5/8 x 18 fine thread bolt. That kind of surprized me as I just assumed it was metric. The hunt goes on.

a caliper and a screw pitch gauge will answer the question I bet if you go to a fastener supply store you can find one

Also, if it was my boat, I would disconnect the switch before I stopped taking the boat out. The boat will work without the switch, but your hand will be chopped off if you try to put your hand in the clean out port while the engine is running. As I read on a warning sign...You may experience death, or worse. (But I would still risk it, and then once you find it, put it back.)

I think you found me a winner @Beachbummer. The boat won't be in the water for another week or two. I'm going to try one more place tomorrow for the nylon nut. Failing that your suggestion works for me. Thanks for all the help guys.

Another pair of nuts brought to you by jetboaters.net!

This is a ridiculously expense fix for your nuts, but the replacements switches are available.

it looks like it has about 2' of cabling attached, I wonder if you can see where the connector is plugged in and disconnect it easily?

.

FYI for you guys M16 x 1.5 in america is .6299 x .059 pitch.

Where a 5/8-18 is .625 x .055 pitch

What I am trying to say is they are REALLY close in size.

But, do we know which it is?? They may be cheap enough that one of each may not be a bad idea until it is determined for certain.

I would gamble on the metric thread but one obviously works on the other

The thread is M16x1.5mm. The 5/8 may feel like it fits, but it is most likely because it is plastic threads on the switch... and like jc said, they are really close in size
