I had posted before about climate controlled storage procedures. The feedback and help was awesome, thanks! Someone recommended fogging the engines but I'm not sure how to do it or if it's necessary. Is this something my dealer/service department will include in the "winterizing" service, doni need to ask for it and is it necessary if I'm storing inside above 50 degrees? This is the first year I've had a jet boat and a different process than I went through with my previous Crownline I/O. Thanks!

Your profile doesn't indicate where you boat. If you include city & state or zip code your aproximate location & screen name will be placed on our user map.

With regard to fogging. There is much controversy but Yamaha put out a service bullitin several years ago recommending fogging, sometimes several times during the season depending on where you boat. You could call your dealer and ask if this is something they normally do while winterizing. That would indicate what they consider a best practice for your area. Personally I feel Yamaha is the expert on their product so I follow their recommendation.

Fogging helps prevent internal corrosion - if it's going to be reasonably warm AND dry, I wouldn't bother.

Excellent feedback guys and I'll update my profile. I'm in Grand Rapids, MI. I'll call the dealer.

For how easy it is to do why not just do it for cheap insurance?

I've never been through the process so didn't know how involved or not it was. I'm all about extra preventive maintenance to ensure peak performance. I'll ask the dealer to put it on the list.

As far as I can tell the only downside is the cost of fogging oil and the possibility of fouling your spark plugs another low cost item. Is there something else I am missing?

Gothcha, super simple to do and I have yet to foul a set of plugs. I do my first run of the season on my old plugs then swap to new ones every year anyhow. I do not run iridium plugs.

I think the plug fouling after fogging is an old wives tale. Never has happened to me. It just burns off. Cam.

On a 1.8 is it best to fog through the breather tube or remove the air filter and spray directly into the engine?
