Jet Ski recommendations

We have a 2015 vx cruiser. Just picked up a second machine and opted for a 2016 cruiser ho and love it. And the new ride tech is awesome.

Man jet skis have changed. Best ski I have ever owned was a 2004 Sea Doo XP DI. 951cc two stroke and fuel injected. The thing sipped fuel, and was decent on top end (60-62 ish) for the time period. I really miss the small nimble powerful skis. The sparks don't have the power the XP's had.

Are they the 60 or 90 horsepower versions? What's your top speed. I understand they're designed for play and not so much top end, but I was curious to know what they could cruise at for longer runs.
@Ramblin Wreck I have the 2up 90 HP versions, they will do near 50 MPH.

I had a DI engine, for about 10 min before it blew up. That was an expensive lesson.

Ha, I had an 03 and 04. Never had a single issue out of either one and rode them hard. Guess it's luck of the draw.

Book value is about $4500 and the trailer is worth about $800 in my neck of the woods. The hours are a little high relative to what's around me for sale in that price range.
$8500-9000.

NADA is showing $5,480 each low retail and $6190 each Avg Retail with the trailer between $5-600

I have a white and green 2016 FX Cruiser that I will be listing for sale shortly. Only 2 hours on it.

@abvickery Where will you be listing this white and green 2016 FX Cruiser?

Why you selling?

I just bought 2 older seadoos and a trailer for 800 bucks. One is a 92 XP, which I have to replace the motor in. The other is a 96 Xp. The guy didn't know how to take care of it. It is a little rough right now but I did all of the fuel and oil line changes, replaced pump oil, repaired VTS, and now it runs great!! This winter I will fix everything with the skis and get them back to mint condition.

I still have a 1992 SeaDoo SPi with nearly the same hull as your purple XP at my parent's house. I just rode it a few weeks ago. Even though it's only 55HP, there is just something about those older nimble skis. I'm certainly not as spry as I was years ago but I can nearly stick my shoulder in the water on a hard turn. It is vastly different than the 2008 RXT I just sold. There is just something about those old two strokes that makes them a totally different experience. My RXT would nearly hit 70 but it was far less nimble.

Also, if I were to have seen the picture of you towing a trailer with a trailer I may not have sold mine. :D

Regarding the original question, having owned three SeaDoos and also researching Yamaha so heavily, I would likely either go with a 2 stroke SeaDoo (old X4 hull or a Spark), or a Yamaha. When I bought my RXT in 2009, I looked at Yamaha too because all of the rental companies had them (routinely exceeding 300 hours and you know how renters take care of those skis). The price difference was like $4,000 though, so that immediately put Yamaha out of the running. That was almost 50% more because of the deal I got on the RXT. I do also prefer the look of SeaDoo over most Yamahas as well.

I wasn't really in the market for skis, and my top choice would still be Yamaha over everything, but the deal that I got with the above, I couldn't pass it up.

If you want something smaller and more maneuverable than the common three seaters available these days but still don't want to pay the costs of a new spark consider the Yamaha WaveBlaster I and II from the mid-90s. They are two stokes but they have about the same HP and weigh about as much as the seadoo sparks at less than half the cost with a trailer. Other comparable skis already mentioned are the seadoo XP, SPX and GSX with the 800 cc 110 hp motors. The sparks are cool but I don't think the hull could take the punishment I put my skis through and the entry level $5K new price doesn't exist around me. The dealer add's on $1,300, plus tax and a trailer if you don't already have one and it gets closer to $8K fast.

Wave blasters were great! They are hard to find sometimes because they stay in high demand. Lots of freestyle guys buy them up.

Nice skis @jcyamaharider . I'm a sucker for vintage SeaDoo's and the 91-92 XP is where it all started. I'm of course partial to that 96 XP as I will always miss mine. Have fun with them!

One day I'm buying a Wet bike.

STILL have an '03 Yam XLT1200. My kid smokes most of the newer ski's (and boats) on the lake like they're standing still! 62mph on the speedo - most stable ski I've ever seen, never tips! Starts up every year after winter. Had the carbs rebuilt 2 years ago ($500) and a cracked control cable replaced ($85). Never put another dime into her other than gas and oil. Yamaha all the way!
