@Bill D reported above that his anchor came loose and punched a hole in his hull. Sucks.

My anchor came loose and punched a hole in the bow, so it's a really long way to tow a boat only to break it. :(
Damn. Sorry to hear that. I will make sure to put my anchor in the floor storage next year.

Damnit man I'm sorry!!

Pool noodle mod possibly
Yeah, I have mine pretty darn secure BUT I'm considering adding some protection. We hit some pretty big wave every once in awhile on Lake Travis.

@Eric Ballard - I was catching up on this thread and thought the same thing. $2 pool noodle could be cut and create a very cheap cushion and insurance.

I think @blacksapphirez padded his anchor locker with thick sound deadening foam when he prepped his boat for the crossing. I remember seeing a pic and pretty sure it was his boat.

I just talked to BoatUS. Island Girl is in tow. Everyone is safe and they will be to Harbour Town in about 30 minutes.

BTW, their hold music is the theme song to Gilligans Island..... lol

I have a bungee cord around my anchor which keeps it secured very simple. I boat in the Gulf of Mexico with some pretty big rollers and have no issues at all. On a side note, I was talking to my wife last night about going on this trip next year. I will make sure that I don't tell her about people turning back due to storms, holes in hulls and broken Bimini's

Speaking of - I just looked at the current forecast for my trip (7/22 - 26) = 13mph winds with 60% of thunderstorms.

Not looking so good.

Man, that sucks. I'm thinking I read that happening to someone else a few years ago.
Last year it happened to a boat with us while in Bimini I believe. They noticed it while at Honey Moon Harbor pot luck....they continued on as no other choice.....its probably posted last years trip.

Forecasts that far in advance are not very accurate. It will change, hopefully for the better.

They show thunderstorms everyday here in Florida in the summer. Most of the time yoy can dodge them and stay in nice weather.

Spoke with @blacksapphirez and he said both him and Bill had their anchor lockers padded for the prep. 6' waves though I guess it really doesn't matter what pads you use if the anchor comes underdone and slams around in there as you pound waves.

I believe that was @ACrews that had the anchor punch through before
