Thanks to @Rana, @Emma and @Gavin for the new plotter for Father’s Day.

Anyone interested in carrying 3 bags and a few gas cans on there boat

After crossing on skis a couple times I would tell you that you do not want someone else carrying your reserve fuel cans. You will want them on your ski in case you need them if they are on another vessel and you for any number of reasons get separated from that vessel your fuel is useless to you and the risk of a fuel pass off from a boat to a ski in any kind of rough conditions is dangerous.

Are you getting a radar, too?
We need to know more about that plotter!

--

It is a touch screen Raymarine a78. They are on sale for $299 for Fathers Day which is a small discount from the $1,360 when it was launched.

It runs Raymarine’s Lighthouse II software. The latest generation of plotters has moved on to Lighthouse III.

It is capable of networking with other devices such as radar, IP cameras, infrared, weather receivers, etc.

Information is quite sketchy on the features of the various weather receivers. The oldest, discontinued, models have the longest forecasts but may have lower resultion.

Theyr weather data is accessed using Raymarine’s GRIB Viewer application via WiFi. The service costs $99 a year or $15 a month. There is a free demo for one month. Free weather data can also be viewed. For the Bimini Crossing I expect to have mobile data available for the first 10 to 15 and last 10 to 15 miles. The unit downloads radar forecasts for a few hours into the future which will somewhat cover th gap.

My perspective on radar is that it would be useful for night time navigation but less useful than the weathe radar from weather services for tracking storms.

Here is more info on the Theyr weather data.

I know in previous years people have left early if weather dictates. How did lodging go?

Time to clean the boat and make sure paperwork is on boat, extra whatevers are packed etc!
Going out on Lake Michigan for a good gas burn this fathers day weekend so i am lighter for the drive!

We have only done that once and everyone was able to get into their condos in Bimini.

This years group is much larger. Hopefully we can avoid that early departure.
