I finally got around to mounting my Prosport 12 charger today. I mounted it inside the engine bay and used some 1/2 inch plastic spacers to give some airspace behind it. Still need to figure out how I want to route the power cord. I just temporarily ran it through the intake vent and out the back for now.

It's a little late now, but what is behind the round plastic cover on the side of the engine bay. I debated putting a screw on that corner, but used a really short screw that barely pierced the plastic just to keep it from bouncing around.

Of course my son and I had to take the boat out for a little social distancing ?.

Not sure what the round thing is but to avoid it, I would have mounted it vertically or at an angle where it looks like it would fit with all screws thru the wood.

Not sure about the 21' ers, but on my 23' the YDS connectors are behind that bulkhead cover on starboard side. Again, not sure about your port side cover. I think @Speedling has the same 08 boat. He will know.

I mounted mine over by the batteries. I didn't want to put more electrical in the engine compartment in case of fire/heat (I know--irrational, as the ECU's are already in there...). However, that meant that the wiring is all contained to the same bay there with the batteries.

As far as the plate, I agree with @zipper -- I think each side just has connectors and such (not only for YDS, but for all manner of wires running here to there). I have never had reason to open the port side (only starboard, and then only for YDS). I would not worry about it at all... Boat on.

If you are asking how to route the power cord AC plug in, I did this.
I cut a hole in the port side by the charger and now I can plug in an extension cord to the charger without having to get in the boat.

21' boats don't all have that cover. My YDS connector is essentially just zip tied in and bundled with the other wires along the back wall with the ECU.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'll keep an eye on it, but think it will be fine.

I considered mounting it in the area with the batteries, but I really didn't see a good place to put it out of the way.

I plan to buy one of those remote plugs if I can make myself drill a hole in the side of the boat. ?

Lots of masking tape. It's quite scary but ultimately it's very anti-climatic.

I was nervous too. But like the previous poster said, tape the hole. I drilled a hole for my subwoofer and that worked out okay. Drilling the plug hole was easy.

As they said, tape up the whole area to stop cracking of the gelcoat, and take your time. First one is scary, after that, not so much. Check behind the fiberglass to make sure there's nothing like wires/cables to hit before you start, then get out the tape.

..and start the hole by drilling backwards. Put the drill in reverse and start the hole. Once it is started, flip it to the right direction. Same process whether you use a regular twist bit or a hole bit. All that just prevents cracks.
