Need a New Wakesurf Board

So my new nubstep came today. The volume is actually less than the 2018 but still more volume than my way longer liquid force rocket and more volume than coaster xr 5'. I'm demoing this board Friday and if I like it IL be shredding my gorgeous classic white board all weekend. If not I'll give the coaster a shot.

@Arcadyus, I'm not sure what happened to your previous post about the board volumes. But I think you are correct about the board volumes. It looks like Doomswell board does actually have a higher volume. I couldn't find the exact specs prior to my previous post, I was judging off the video that I had watched which made it sound thinner than it actually is... so I may eat my words and opinion, it could very well have the speed to stick to a smaller wake. From there, it's a matter of which will best fit your riding style.

Meanwhile in your image of the 2018 board you're about to demo the sticker says 22. Does that mean the new model is 17L or 25L??? I guess the proof will be in the ride...

All I know is I've got the best price you'll find on all of the Slingshot boards, so somebody flurpin' buy one... Lol!

My board is a brand new 2019, the info you see online is all 2018 info. I'm just meeting a rep for doomswell at my local lake Friday to demo a 2019. Idk what lines they redesigned other than the nubstep. So the 2018 had 27 liter the 2019 has 22 liters. They reduced it for more maneuverability doing tricks.

Talked to one of the guys at Doomswell. He recommended the neo as being a tad more forgiving to suit all the riders in my stable. He confirmed the volume reduction for 2019 in both the nubstep and the neo. He advised to go with 4’8” 2018 or a 5’0 2019 given I have a shorter pocket with lots of push (the current net effect of my pipe booster). I found a 4’8” 2018 in bamboo and blue color scheme that all should love and pulled the trigger. Will be interesting to dial in the weight and pipe booster for a faster more nimble board.

I was really impressed with talking to Doomswell. @JRAD should certainly dial them up and chat about bringing their product line in.

I'd really like to, I just need to prove that I can consistently sell the inventory I've already invested in. As far as selling to the forum goes, I think these things just need to be demonstrated and validated by in real world application.

I think the we're getting there with the Cruiser. People are starting to get out and ride them. Perhaps not the most skilled riders as of yet however but, on the other hand pro rider can make just about any board look good. It has been seen that even more unskilled riders have been succeeding at riding ropeless. I anticipate it being a great board when I get on it but, having seen it in action I'm more looking forward to trying some of these others I've got out.

I don't think is an issue where only one or two boards are going to work. JBP were demonstrating the TVW's riding Connelly boards. I'm planning to get out and ride several of my incoming O'Brien boards.

I have little doubt the Doomswell board is going to prove worthy. I think, with no intention of offending anyone here, it might be more board than a 19ft Yamaha wake deserves. The wake size itself is going to at some point challenge what a rider can do on any board. So it become a matter of justifying a $450-500 board that doesn't necessarily perform any worse than a $700 board on the same wake.

In the end, we all like what we like and we want what we want, and if I like one board better than for any reason, and the money is there to spend on it... I'm buying it.

Must say I would be where you are at with starting a new business and purchase orders on inventory. Hoping you succeed and grow. Had I gone with a slingshot I would have certainly contacted and done business with you. The fin set up, board construction, shape, volume, and intended use all drove me to the doomswell. We are pretty athletic with lots of advanced level board sports experience and hoping to lay down some modest tricks. If just cruising thrashing/switchback once and a while it would have been the coaster. Not saying that a coaster can’t do more stuff but I wanted something a bit more surf oriented than skim oriented. Hopefully the go pro is off when I go for my first grab and faceplant.

Will be only our second season surfing and I will only be able to compare/contrast with a HL Landlocked which couldn’t be more different at over a foot longer than what I just ordered. Someone warned me off the landlocked after I already pulled the trigger knowing we are more aggressive types. Well i should have sent it back as we had an instantly poor experience with it being tourbus like,m. That did make me do more research and understand more. One thing I knew for sure is a good board is going to cost a good bit as contruction matters from surf boards to snowboards. Putting aside all of the marketing bs the cheaper wakesurf boards are the equivalent of a extruded base on a snowboard where the more expensive ones are the equivalent of a sintered base. Vastly different and you can feel it right away. I will no doubt be posting up a review from a yami owner middle aged beginner with lots of board/ski sports experience point of view.

At least the H/L Landlocked will make a great wall ornament in the family room or my office. I would even put it in the front hallway if my wife would let me. I may even try surfing it behind a neighbors pontoon just for kicks.

I agree with everything you said. This thread is full of all good information on these boards. I could have save myself a few hundred dollars on boards had I been a little less impulsive on my first choices. I think the 21' and 24' boats (like your 242) have a lot more choices. But, I hope I have something that caters to all of them.

I truly hope your board performs well for you. If it does then it's worth every penny. I hope your pipe booster throws a good wave for it too, great engineering! Also, I appreciate the kindness and consideration.

Update update read all about it lol. So went on my demo with the doomswell dudes today. Rode the nubstep, neo, and bandwagon all 4'8" all 2019 models. First was the nubstep. It was fast and whippy but nose dove a lot and couldn't keep me in the pocket well. Or I couldn't stay in with the nubstep either way it wasn't great for MY boat. We had 2 guys on the swim platform about 460lb total then a 200lb driver and my 140lb mom up front. So we switched tothe swim deck ballast one 230lb dude next to the driver and my dad up front with my mom. The wake was tall and had good push but the reduced volume still kept it nose diving. So shit I gotta return the nubstep I just bought. Next was the neo. Holy balls is this board fast. So fast I kept getting bucked trying to get up. But once I did WOW. I was actually able to stay way back in the pocket to all the way up to the boat. Zero tension on the rope for minutes. I could even fall all the way back catch up going down the wave then at the bottom of the wave it would push me back into the pocket. This is what surfing feels like. I havent smiled like that in awhile. The bandwagon was like a slow version of the neo. So this was a very interesting day. I'm going to evo tomorrow to return the nubstep and buy a neo.

On a side note the doomswell guys suggested we move the ballast to the surfers opposite side. He said on most wakesurf boats wakes work better that way. Also try it right in the middle of the swim platform. Just some food for thought.

You are prob right about the price of the board for the wake. But I have never went cheap on my hobbies. I will still have the neo when I buy my moomba max in 2021. The doomswell guys said they prob couldn't go ropeless on the 19ft wake or it would be difficult. They were both over 200lbs and thought it would be difficult.

In the pnw I find it very hard to get more speed from a sintered base even though I know it should be. Holds more wax, holds more structure. But with how wet our snow is my park boards are almost as fast as my pow boards. The neo did feel like a libtech compared to the liquid force which feels like a old school Craig Kelley special from value village. Lol

Interesting. No way an extruded board should be faster than a sintered board with the same base and edge profile unless a tech or machine really messed up the edges or wax job. I was a certified ski, snowboard, and bike tech in high school. I also did multiple GS and mogul comps. Been base reparing, hand sharpening, and hand waxing my families sticks and boards ever since. If your board is slow on wet stuff after getting waxed get a short horsehair board brush and try different patterns starting with crisscrossed. Also those waxing machines many places use can’t touch a good tech with good wax and a good iron. Toyo digital board iron is the best there is for home waxjobs and is super fast on sticks with the oversized plate.

I have a very nice horsehair brush and only use toyo light blue. They won't sell me the pink pnw wax. I've been waxing mine and all the homes boards for years. Learned from a great 20 year veteran of the ski industry. For example my LIB MC Wayfinder is barely faster than my Gnu Pharaoh. But it's ok the Wayfinder is the most beautiful board I've ever seen. And Jesus can it take pillows. I do use a criss cross pattern for when it gets really wet. Sometimes I even use my SS brush. My fav part of waxing a us getting edges so rusty you need a tetnis shot lol. Then I get them looking brand new.

@swatski is sporting s 2016 AR240, wake wedge, custom transom ballast bag, and 3 bag internal ballast. I'm going to be running the same this season and I'm stoked every time I see his wake.
