No, No not for my bank account. My paint is moderately oxidized so I need to compound. I bought some 3M Marine Rubbing Compound for heavy oxidized finishes. I also bought its companion 3M Marine Finesse-It ll. I'll apply this with a DA buffer. My question is: Can I go right over the origional graphics on my 2006 SX230? Where's @Glassman when you need him?

You can, but do those sections by hand first to see how they hold up. The light compound should be able to handle the powered buffer. Otherwise, throw your elbows into it.

Good luck!

As stated by biffdotorg, you should apply by hand over the graphics as a first step. If you need to use the buffer on the graphics, try a less aggressive pad and a lower speed with the 3M Marine Finesse, and you can inspect your work as you go.

Thanks guys.

I usually try to avoid graphics with a polisher. If you run over onto it a little bit, thats fine, but it does take its toll on them. Painters tape is great for masking them off.

As said above, you can. However, you may not remove all the oxidation evenly around the graphics. Mine was pretty bad, so I removed the graphiics and wet sanded the hull first with 1000/1500/2000 sand paper and then used a D/A to finish the oxidation removal, polishing and waxing. A rotary works better for oxidation removal but may mess up the graphics when using a wool pad. The graphics may hinder the process. Good luck. Mine before and after.

I had the same lite oxidation on my 2004 230 what worked great for me I bought the inexpensive polisher at harbor frigeht And maguires makes an excellent one step wax compound called marine and RV 67 I would use the polisher on the entire boat but the graphics you could do by hand very lightly good luck post some pics
