Use bees wax on the ring or dielectric grease be careful of spray silicon most has other ingredients and penetrants that can interact with the ring, bees wax will not harm it and water won't remove it, Pure Silicon spray is becoming hard to find bees wax is what toilet bowl rings are made of and it is excellent for so many boating relates applications

YamaLube spray on the plugs rubber seal. Flush the ports of sand with a hose. Then yamalube the port area too. Then lock them in and out a few dozen times to keep them lubricated.

We were at the lake a couple of weeks ago. Some guys in a newer Yamaha pulled up next to us on the beach. They couldn't get the plugs to lock. I showed them how to line up and lock the plug.

Someone made a 'Key' for the twist lock clean-out plugs. Basically, a 2" or 3" piece of PVC pipe notched out to fit the handles. Then a cross pipe about 3' above the deck. Makes a nice T handle to unscrew a stuck plug.

But ideally, they should just operate smoothly.

Oddly Yamaha's original clean out plugs were twist in and I recall someone making something like that to help with that and then they made the push button "BLOW OUT PLUGS" to make it easier to get them in and out but those had some serious problems so after 16 years of blow out plugs they are back to the twist in plugs.
