have you guys seen the posts going around on the Facebook groups with the AR 230 with twin outboards?

First and most relevant question: WHY?

My bad! I don’t know why lol. They are in the Phillipines or somewhere similar. Can’t remember from the post. It’s on the Yamaha boat owners Facebook page

I saw something similar in Mexico. Seadoo jet boat with single outboard.

Can't get parts, boats spend a great deal of time in the water. Boat engine breaks, can't be fixed locally quickly, somebody gets pissed the boat has been down for too long...BAM!... Outboards.

That is illegal in the U S A or sacrilegious at the very least,, how dare they put a set of MERCURY engines on a Yamaha hull and not at least cover the name on the engine covers. NO NO NO ! Not acceptable.

If it's any consolation the seadoos in Mexico were powered by a Yamaha engine :)

Got to admit, that looks sweet!!!! I bet that thing moves!

That's crazy! I'm curious how they mounted them, and what a retrofit like that would cost. No kidding on the extra storage space!

Looks like they used hydraulic outboard brackets like the flats boats use here , the big expense is the 2 engines.
around 35 years ago I built a O M C sea drive system with a 140 outboard using a I O hull I totally rebuilt and converted for the sea drive, it worked very nicely actually, The only issue I had was with the air intake on the engine cover, it allowed water to get in and soak the ignition so I had to build a special fiberglass deflector into the cover to contain any water and redirect it around the top of the engine to the lower unit area where it would drain out, I learned about the water issue during a storm out in the Gulf with trailing seas that kept hitting the engine cover.

Yes, engines approximately $20,000 install and fabrication another $4,000.

On Philippines engines probably twice the price, install 1/10 of us price.

I saw that, I asked why on the FB page but the guy never commented again...that I saw anyway.

Probably as mentioned lack of parts but also there is a huge black market on outboards in place like the Bahamas and Philippines these things are stolen all the time and resold cheap. So cost wise it probably wasn't nearly as expensive as you might think.

Geezzzz... At least they could have put a pair of Yamaha outboards on there.

Well, I guess you can kiss the swim platform goodby.

Is it really illegal to convert to OB in the US?

they claimed on FB it handle better on the rough sea and many of them have converted to OB.

No I was kidding

Makes sense to me: For those that love the layout but prefer the hassle of broken propellers, lower unit maintenance, etc, this is an ideal setup!

I like the position of the hand rail on the deck so you can get real close to the props when you are climbing up to the platform or off of it for that matter.
