Pulled over by coastguard

We were stopped this weekend, just a regular compliance check. All went well, we get stopped every year, never heard of or ever received a sticker, gonna ask for one next year! I always want to ask them questions, do they give tours, how long is their hitch at this port, what’s the primo port to work at, etc. But the wife always tells me to keep my mouth shut and just answer the questions.
We don't have CG in this area, but DNR and sheriff on boats is common on the lakes traveled by tourists. Chain 'O Lakes in Waupaca WI always has a sheriff patrol, mainly he's pulling people over in no wake zones. My cousin on a jet ski got a talking to, apparently the deputy didn't understand "going as slow as I could to stay in control of the riding double ski" excuse and he got a warning.

I haven't been stopped yet this year, but usually as long as you're not driving dangerously, have good stickers, obviously drunk, or harassing wildlife they'll leave you alone.

I got a ticket last year and have been eyeballed more than once and seen people shaking their heads when I am trying not to get thrown on the rocks in the channel. 4mph or so if I can keep it that slow. Wonder if there is a mod we could do to our boats to minimize wake that can be put on and off?
Yep it's tough - either stay in control or "make a wake." Wish LEO's would receive a little more instruction on the different types of wakes. A pontoon can pass me at double my speed hardly making a ripple. I have to make a 3" wake just to stay in control.

I could say more, but some people can’t be convinced one way or another and at some point it becomes unproductive to continue the discussion. I think this conversation has reached that point.

This. I learned from the COVID thread that some people just don't have an open mind at all. Their way or the highway and your an evil person! (jk)

I’ve been boarded once.

Friend was just home from Iraq and still on active duty. He got up and sat on the gunwale at slightly above wake speed and we were immediately pulled over.

Not that people should get special treatment…but I kept waiting for him to bring up that was on leave and he never did. They were writing out the ticket and got to his permanent address at Ft Hood and they tore up the ticket right away (made a bit of a show of it actually) and bid us good day. Very nice guys even before that.

Never had any problem with LEOs like that. They are there to keep people safe and not just to hassle people or collect money. There are bad apples but most give you the respect you earn, which is in your control.

I think if you feel you have valid argument you ought to at least try. Even if you disagree, you at least learn what the other person is thinking. Not enough discussion breeds echo chambers, or worse.

When I first heard the words "Safe Space" I thought it was a space where you knew and assumed others came to learn and inquire with an open mind to capture the other person's perspective and try to reach a shared understanding. Imagine my surprise when I learned there were "Safe Spaces" for [self censored]ism, [self censored]ism, flat earth, and other fringe ideologies where differing opinions are not allowed because it's a "safe space"...WHAT?

There are perfectly appropriate ways to bring up conflicting ideas, even respectfully. I don't fear the discussion, I fear the lack of discussion.

[self censored] in case it's political.

I find those TDE settings (1-2-3, in idle) sometimes helpful in this regard, quite a bit more control at low speeds.
I swear, not trying to be captain obvious, just thinking out loud.
