I believe you can call boat US and just get the tow package to include trailer assist. But over 12 years of boat ownership? I have gravitated to just getting rid of the company (Erie) that insures all my stuff for the boat, and use Boat US. They are specialists and the claims process is so easy. (I had a kid lose her wig a few years back on a tube run, $1000 wig, and was reimbursed quickly with no hassle on the medical claim.) A boat tow issue documented here few years ago (towed off a sandbar) moved me about 50 yards or so. Free with a phone call. Very expensive if I didn't have the towing. And then this incident. No hassle. No out of pocket. I recommend Boat US for the entire boat thing, forget your normal insurance. And the rates are competitive if not better. But to your question? Yes. call 'em up and sign up for towing/trailer assist. I went ten years without having to use it, but was damn glad I had it. You will be too. My idiot brother in law got towed off the Chesapeake 3 years ago when his POS boat failed. $1400. I asked him "After that experience, you got the Boat US on water towing, correct?" No. Damn if it didn't happen again the next year. You can't fix stupid.
I agree. Their boat insurance is underwritten by Geico BTW.

Thanks for the info and review. I agree that good insurance is like 4wd on a pickup. Not used 99% of the time, but the 1% you need it you would be in rough shape without it.

I have everything through Erie now. Just talked to them, and they have my trailer covered under the trucks roadside assistance. Although I'm unsure how much coverage that really is. Agent on the phone said she couldn't answer questions like "how far will you tow me", and "Do they tow the truck and trailer?". Needless to say the confidence isn't super high there at this point. She was going to reach out to a regional manager for some answers. I'm hoping that person just calls and talks to me direct.

I also asked about cost. Looks like we're paying $400/yr for replacement coverage ($27k on our '17 AR190). Did a quick online quote through BoatUs with a $30k agreed value coverage, and $4k coverage for the trailer (probably high?!??!) for $275/yr. We'll probably switch to them when the time comes for us to renew. Save a few hundred bucks a year, and get better (or at least more clarity on what is covered) coverage.

I'm replying to my own post here.......hoping to revive some discussion without starting a whole new thread.

Time to renew my boat insurance, and I'm curious if everyone is still liking what they have.

boat us went up dramatically now that they are a geico subsidiary....that gecko advertising costs a fortune. Save with Geico is a joke, by the way. I actually called on a whim for my 5 cars, and they were 25% higher than my current Erie Insurance, which is not advertised on TV....hmm see the relation? TV ADS MEANS EXPENSIVE INSURANCE. Just look at the cost of State Farm Insurance these days - 40% higher than Erie for less coverage! I paid my Boat US only because I was too lazy to look elsewhere.

My on towing (on water or land) support fees more than doubled this year compared to last year.

I dropped geico too because of a premium increase 2 years in a row despite no claims and a depreciating asset. Went back to usaa (progressive).

I grew up in Ohio. We always had our vehicles ziebarted for rust protection. Never had any rust through issues. My dad drove a 1977 Suburban from Ohio to Texas. Sold it 14 years later for more than he paid for it.
