I tow the boat with a German Volkswagen Amarok 2.0 BiTurbo Diesel, I have a F150 but the F150 doesn't have a good MPG compared with the diesel, It doesn't have the size of the F150 but it's all wheel drive and tows like a maniac!
Went down to the storage unit to start getting the boat ready for the season. Hooked it up to the truck for the first time and also setup the pro backup assist and program the trailer to the truck. I played with the backup assist and it’s cool but I prefer traditional style. It’s for people who have never backed up a trailer or are new to it and can’t get the reversed steering input down. Hoping my wife will try and like it for the boat ramp this season. The new truck definitely matches the boat much better than my old truck did!
That second consideration is a big one. If they offered the giant tank on a Powerboost driveline, imagine how long you can run the truck as a generator. I can totally see that.
Never had to run from a hurricane or other natural disaster, so I'm blind to that aspect of things, and honestly more naive than I care to admit.
When a hurricane big enough to evacuate hits, the powerboost generator is the least useful part of it. The hybrid crawl on the interstate might be.
I fill up a few 5 gallon jugs near the start of hurricane season and then use in the vehicle after it's over, just in case. If power is out, pumps don't work.
I wouldn't buy a truck without the bigger tanks. Ram offering the 33 gallon on the diesel is a killer app type deal. Ford offers some insanely huge tanks on 250 and 350, nearly 50 gallons. There's aftermarket tanks that are nearly 70 gallons. That's a hell of a reserve to gtfo.
If it sucks believe me I’ll let it be known lol. It has great reviews though and Curt designs their products to last. I used Curt hardware on the Class IV receiver conversion on my last truck and was impressed by their build quality so figured I’d give them another go with the new truck. There is a rubber bumper made onto the ball piece that is supposed to keep it a quieter hitch, so we will see how that fairs over time.
My pictures from last night light make it appear the hitch is close to the ground but it’s just the angle making it appear that way. It has just over 12 1/2” clearance from the bottom of the hitch to the ground for anyone curious on a newer F150.

If your wife sucks at backing up a trailer she will LOVE the trailer assist. My wife having never backed up a trailer in her life was able to back the boat down first time she used it. Fortunately the ramp was nice and long so really all she had to do was get it straight and the trailer assist keeps it in a perfectly straight line. After that she was a pro with it and could back the trailer down anywhere. Once we had our second kid that messed up our flow. So I do the launching and retrieving again solo. But for that season it was sooooooo nice. We had handheld radios and she'd let me know which ramp she was going to hit. By the time the trailer was fully in the water I'd be on it and she'd be pulling out. Was in and out so dang fast. Ramps have come back from covid crazy and there isn't the pressure that there was before to be in and out ASAP.
I play with it from time to time, but you're right it messes with your head if you're used to backing up a trailer. It is fun to play with it. Was at my buddies lake house and was backing down his driveway and was like watch this.....and used the trailer assist. He has the same truck, so figured he'd wanna see it in action. He gave me shit and told me to hand in my man card. LOL! I said mannnnnnn don't run from technology, especially if it makes our lives easier.

The 36 gallon in my F150 is amazing. 730ish mile range is fantastic. I can get nearly half way up or down the east coast on that. If I needed to head further inland that's a long ways to go. I can make it to the TN mtns and back without needing to fill up.
2022 F450. Maybe a little overkill for the boat. Lol. I primarily got it to haul our 40+foot Cyclone toy hauler around. My wife wants to level it and do wheels and tires but I kinda like it as is (except for the ride).
Mine is a V6, factory tow. There isn’t any sway and the trailer has surge brakes and I haven’t had any push or jerking.
Worst thing tho…without towing boat I get 20 to 21 MPG, when towing it’s 12 to 15.
Honestly I don't think 12 to 15 is bad. I would argue you cannot get better. Not sure diesel can do any better while towing, right? My gasser f250 gets 13 without towing.
Sold my 2018 F150 two weeks ago and got this 2023 Tundra. Crewmax, 6.5ft bed, 4wd.
I wanted the air suspension and power tow mirrors. Those required adding the big center screen and SR5 premium package. Overall I'm liking the truck a lot. Averaged 19.8mpg in mixed driving during the first 400 miles, and 10.5 mpg towing the AR250 for 45 miles. Very quiet and smooth ride and the power delivery is great. Turning radius is way better compared to the F150, which makes parking lots and backing up the trailer way easier despite the trucks being almost identical in overall size.
I would like the larger 32+ gallon gas tank the Limited and higher grades offer, and the Hybrid powertrain is interesting. I may make an irresponsible decision later this year or next and upgrade to get those.
23 Tundra for us as well, Platinum with the 32 gallon tank and black interior. No rear air, only squats and inch or two. The hill makes it looks worse.

This is high on my list of trucks to look at, but in black with power running boards and a lowering kit. Maybe hybrid, have to see how those review out over the next bit.

If anyone can be trusted with hybrid, it's Toyota. We were already past our $60k "cut off" and didn't entertain it. Same with the running boards and HUD, I'd like to have them but we would have been approaching $70k pretty rapidly.
The black interior (pillars/headliner), heated and cooled front and rear leather seats, upgraded center console, and larger fuel tank sold it for us. Everything my wife wanted on a Limited is standard on the Platinum as well. We spent 6 months turning down one Limited after the other for various reasons. We bought the first Platinum we saw, signed the papers with the stickers still all over the truck at 8 pm on a Sunday.
Figured I’d jump in here. I just bought my first boat, 2023 Yamaha AR220, and didn’t really have a dedicated tow rig. For now I’m using my 2008 Porsche Cayenne. I never realized that these things are rated for 7,700lbs when using the oem hitch setup. I picked up the oem hitch and control module off of EBay and have now pulled the boat with it three times. Mine is only a VR6 powered unit but it pulls the boat just fine. We have a couple of trips planned to head out to western Maryland (Deep Creek Lake) that I’ll probably opt to borrow my dads truck for due to the elevation changes but for local use around the upper Chesapeake Bay area the Porsche is doing just fine.
