@ToddW850 - we finally hit Shell Island over the weekend. It's definitely worth seeing if you're looking for something new. We ended up launching at St. Andrews Bay State Park. It's comparable to Crab Island. Not as many "amenities", but the water is nice. Plus, it's very convenient to the gulf.

In the peak summer/tourism times it can be a royal pain dealing with St. Andrews park and the launch. I use a small public launch off S. Lagoon Drive that is a just a little down the road from the park https://www.google.com/maps/place/6...235991!8m2!3d30.1554382!4d-85.7644501!6m1!1e1. The only drawback is Lower Grand Lagoon is extremely shallow west of the bridge so you have to stay in the channel markers or risk riding in less than 2' of water and full of sea grass like I did lol. It also goes through a long no wake zone which can kind of suck depending on the big fishing boat traffic as it passes by Captn. Andersons restaurant and marina.
Crab Island varies throughout the island. Anywhere from just below your knees to waist deep. The outer edges along the south and east side you should be fine. A little more shallow on the west. Plenty fine along the north side inside the No Wake Signs.
