Anyone planning on keeping it with the cash payout? Im assuming someone will have a nice aftermarket tune to get your performance back. I really like the car and I like going 600 miles between fillups. I'm not sure what I can replace it with.

What's the fix for the fix? What kind of performance /MPGs can I get? I'm a few months away from paying the car off and I can't think of anything I would rather have for the money. NADA has the car worth about 13k today and with the 7k cash offer its worth considering.

I think I found the loan forgiveness issue...from something else online.

Buyback option: Volkswagen must offer to buy back any affected 2.0 liter vehicle at their retail value as of September 2015 -- just prior to the public disclosure of the emissions issue. Consumers who choose the buyback option will receive between $12,500 and $44,000, depending on their car’s model, year, mileage, and trim of the car, as well as the region of the country where it was purchased. In addition, because a straight buyback will not fully compensate consumers who owe more than their car is worth due to rapid depreciation, the FTC order provides these consumers with an option to have their loans forgiven by Volkswagen. Consumers who have third party loans have the option of having Volkswagen pay off those loans, up to 130 percent of the amount a consumer would be entitled to under the buyback (e.g., if the consumer is entitled to a $20,000 buyback, VW would pay off his/her loans up to a cap of $26,000).

Ahh, that makes sense.

It's just a massive delete-all. My jetta I sold, and my golf are around 170ho, 330tq or so. My golf (2011) got 56mpg with this tune and delete pipe. My jetta was a little lower, but it was built with a different purpose in mind. After the fix, the same pipe is still gonna work, just gotta tweak the software a bit. My software guy is already working on it. All for off-road use only, of course.

Yes I only drive my Passat off road just like my 2006 Duramax. I was looking for a EGR delete kit to make oil changes easier before all this happened.

@billyb , you seem like you've found more info on this than I. I've seen mention of less money for cars purchased after the September date, and maybe even less for vehicles bought after June 28th. Have you seen any specifics on this?

The lawfirm I work for is one of the thousands doing a class action.

Like I said, my atty mis calculated my payment like like three times, all the while I was saying "that's way too much, but sweet".

I think the link posted above is your best representation of what your gonna get.

For my 2015 Passat tdi SEL, it says I will get 32000, while I owe 22000, a net of 10k +\- 500 for mileage. That is the best I can tell you at this point.

My atty did say in a few weeks, there will be a website where you plug in your vin and mileage and it spits out an amount...so yeah.

Yeah, I've found pretty accurate charts. They just don't really spell out how much less you'll get if you weren't an owner before 9/15/15, or further, you purchased one say, today. Looks like maybe you lose 50% of the incentive if you purchased between september and june, but you might be eligible for 50% of the incentive if you sold after september. I fall into both of those categories on 3 different cars. There's also a 2013 TDI sportwagen available to me now for 5900, that I'm half tempted to buy and sit on.

I got the paperwork today from VW settlement, looks like I'm going to be really torn between "buyout" and "modification" options.
Buyout seems to make a lot more sense financially, at least initially. Problem is, I LOVE this car (2013 Passat TDI), it's just about perfect as a commuter sedan. Does everything I need and I was already planning on my 15yo starting to drive it in a year.

I remember someone here mocking (me I think) how toxic, polluting these cars are... That's just such BS. Let me tell you, where I drive it feels like this car CLEANS the air some days, too many "specials" on the road.

Here are the numbers from the online settlement site, I have under 10k loan balance of something.

Buyout option for my car 24k+ (minus loan balance of 10k) -- would be about 14k net payout:

Modification option (keep the car and the loan, get free "modification" and 6.5k cash):

What to do?...

I have not had time to put my VIN in the system yet. Did they say when you could expect the money? I assume you would only get the cash for the fix after the work has been completed. I have the same problem, I love my car but if I can get 24k for it now vs 7k in 2 years it might make it easy.

You could gamble here...go for the fix and "if you don't like the performance", you could then opt for the buyback in 1.5 years...that would get you another 1.5 years of sweet gas mileage.

I am taking the buyback asap.

I'd throw them all back, dirty, horrible fuel only fit for farm tractors and generators :p:D.

Seriously though, you guys in the US have seriously cheap gas so why the need to run diesels? Here in the UK and mainly in Europe diesels make up a large proportion of vehicle sales, and diesel technology has been developed mainly because of this but now, with high and higher emission levels being harder to achieve, brings us to where VW have ended.
My wife and I both drive diesels but mainly because our fuel is just so ridiculously high, so the slightly extra mpg we get is welcoming, and now a lot of big cities are banning them, and rightly so. The particulates have been proven to be very damaging.

Are they more damaging than a vehicle that requires almost three times the amount of fuel to go the same distance?

Diesel engines are the most efficient by far.

Btw, i hear we are heading for a global cooling period now...how the hell is that possible???

Well, it would be 14k total payout not 24k (in my case) after loan payout.
I did not check timelines for payment, but payout plan will commence this Fall. Modification plan still needs final EPA approval.
What I don't like about the lattrr is that to keep my car I'll have to have them do whatever that is that they do. Which probably means my mileage and torque going to toilet. I'm sure it can be reversed, but it would be a significant cost, and would void the new warranty that they are supposed to issue.

Hence my dilemma. Otherwise they'll keep this car for sure.

Shame on EPA. They are going about this the wrong way.

Well, clean diesels are about three times more efficient than most popular gasoline car on American roads (a SUV or a pick up truck). There is no question they produce more torque for what they burn, too.

And let's not forget you have to burn a lot of oil to make gasoline out of it, anyway. But whatever.

20160817_100815.jpg Got my book in the mail last week. I did all the calculations. I am getting 23k total. It will be gone as i use it as a sales car and it depreciated out. I will probably buy my sales person a nissan altima to replace.
